Travel insurance and bad weather. What type of cover?
Dear all

Myself and my partner are off to our honeymoon in Florida during August, I don't go on holiday often and its my first time to the USA and I had a question regarding travel insurance.

I am aware that it will hurricane season whilst we are in Florida so wanted to ask who is the best travel insurer for this. I been looking at a few travel insurance company websites as well as moneysupermarket and confused but a lot of them dont seem to mention cover for bad weather.

Is this cover standard on most policies?

Some companies are offering standard or premium options, for florida which option would be best?

Has anyone experienced a hurricane whilst in the USA and if so what was there travel insurance like when having to claim?

The cheapest I have found is flexicover, Has anyone used them and are they recommended do they offer good support when things go wrong?

If anyone can offer me and good or partial answers to this, it would be much appreciated

many thanks

First of all.... Congratulations!

Secondly.... Avoid the cost of buying travel insurance by skipping Florida! No need to worry about Hurricanes.... and the elderly! (I have nothing against the elderly... except their driving!) Plan your honeymoon to Michigan! Yes, Michigan.... The Feeling Is Forever!

Michigan does not have Hurricanes....or Earthquakes... So.... there is really no need to worry! Michigan has some of the nicest people on the planet! (Okay... so we have some of the worst people on the planet too, but they don't count! Just avoid those areas!) However... Michigan does not have Disney World or Sea World or Busch Gardens as does Florida! But we have lots of interesting places to visit! I guess it depends on what you like to do! If you like water... We have lots of water! If you like museums... We have lots of museums! If you like to shop... We have lots of shopping areas! If you like the Theater... We have lots of theaters throughout the state! If you like to golf..... We have lots of golf courses! Do you like Festivals and Fairs.... Some city somewhere in Michigan is having one! Do you like to camp.... Have we got campgrounds!

I'd recommend a few places that I personally have been.... Mackinac Island.... Traverse City.... Frankenmuth... These can be very romantic getaways indeed! Of course, I can find romance in downtown Detroit! You just gotta know the ins and outs!

So.... there you have it! I'm not pushing Michigan of course! I'm just giving you another option for a carefree honeymoon when it comes to the weather!

I'm not sure why you would waste money on travel insurance to begin with, but what's wrong with Loyd's of London...............seems they will insure just about anything.

BTW, avoid Michigan. They have mesquito's that can pickup a car and black flies when standing flatfooted that can look a Great Dane in the eye.

LOL!!! Why, Wino dahling.... Wherever do you get your 'Michigan' information?

Yes... we do have mosquito's here at times.... but they can hardly pick up a car! Even if all 30 trillion of them tried at once! Just use a little 'Deep Woods Off' along with your favorite cologne/perfume and you're good as invisible to the blood-sucking disease-carrying annoying little vampire-wannabes!

Now about those black flies.... I've yet to see even one of them annoying little pets that can look a Great Dane in the eye.... even if all 3 million of them stood on each other's backs! Why... I do believe that you Texan types do tend to over exaggerate just a teeny weeny little ole bit! And if you do happen to see one of the actual black flies around these here parts... it won't be until AFTER they have taken a nip outta you anyway. So if you are indeed afraid of them.... again... dab on some 'repellent' before wandering outside.... You'll be just fine!

At least here in Michigan we don't have Alligators (or are they Crocodiles?) for goodness sakes! I'm quite sure there is no known 'repellent' sold in Florida to prevent those buggers from biting if you happen to stumble across one! Although it seems a pretty efficient way to dispose of eviden..... I mean things!

I dated and almost married a young meat eating 7th Day Adventist crocodile from Barrien Springs and spent some time working in Sudbury, Ont. region, so quite familiar with the area and environment. Also do a lot of business with a company in Bay Shore. The mosquito's and black flies were the biggest I've ever encountered any where in the world I've been and there wasn't a repellent they did not love. They were like Rodney King on a Taser.

Well.... it appears that the state of Michigan won't get an endorsement any time soon from you for a vacation destination!

Barrien Springs is waaay southwest and Bay Shore is waaay northwest of where I plant my feet! Must be something in the water of Lake Michigan that pumps up the size of the mosquito's and black flies in that region! I've been to Holland, MI and to Traverse City, MI... both on Lake Michigan, and can honestly say I have never seen these super-sized mosquito's and flies! I guess I'm just lucky that way!

I have heard that some people attract mosquito's naturally based on our carbon dioxide emissions..... breathing out..... So hold your breath! As far as the black flies.... Take a shower! No offense intended! Just trying to help where I can!
