Major League Baseball 2009
Early start for baseball, yes, I know, but news is news... Giambi is back in Oakland...

Quote:
Giambi is returning to his professional baseball roots with the low-budget A's, a far cry from the past seven years he spent with the New York Yankees but familiar nonetheless.

BoSox to announce signing of Atlanta pitcher John Smoltz, and also Rocco Baldelli (from Rhode Island, a Tony Conigliaro award winner for comeback from injury) utility outfielder?

Isn't Smoltz about as old as the hills?

(Although he was still hitting mid-90's last year.)

Brings back a vivid memory for me. I was watching a Sox game, can't remember who it was against, but a foul ball was hit into the stands on the left field side. It hit a little boy in the head and people were freaking out. Jim Rice came and scooped up the boy and ran him to the trainers in the dougout where he was treated and subsequently released. I'll never forget the look of desperation on Rice's face. A hero in my book...

Roger Clemens' denials of drug use reportedly subject of grand jury probe.

At issue are the Cy Young winner's statements before Congress, during which he denied using performance-enhancing drugs. ESPN.com says witnesses might be subpoenaed as soon as this week.

According to reports on the local news - Smoltz is 41! But, he's a gamer, like Pedroia. I can't wait to see him in action as he is quite pleased with his recovery from surgery and has nothing to prove, so he's raring to go! Loves pitching at Fenway too! Has some sort of record (20 innings?) of disallowed runs at Fenway when he is pitching.

Here is an interesting article on the BoSox, and it elucidates what is missing from the NYY whom think they can win the ALC and WS by throwing $$$ at high-end players - stupid Yanks GM - its a team sport!

Why the Red Sox are Bullish on Professional Bull Riding.

Lest you let the title confuse you, the difference is that Boston’s baseball franchise has become a model of innovation and creativity throughout sports, and that clearly permeates through to the core of the baseball "team"!

And that is No Bull! Really!

Kevin Youkilis signs a nice 4 year $40 million dollar deal with the Sox with a 5th year option meaning the Sox 1B, 2B and SS will be tied up for the next 5 years. All home grown players.

New MLB rules cause maple bat flap.

Less than a week after Major League Baseball announced new regulations in December concerning maple-wood bat production, a bat manufacturer named Romeo Filip sent an email to the owners and operators of nearly every bat-making company. He wanted them to read the letter he had written to Roy Krasik, baseball’s point man for the bat debate, that ran 696 angry, profane, passionate words long.

“The morons you hired to do this amazing research have put together a list of the stupidest regulations ever assembled on one piece of paper,” wrote Filip, one of his milder comments. The debate over maple bats stokes ardor on both sides, and nothing illustrates this better than the argument by some manufacturers that MLB’s new rules – backed up by a multi-pronged study that cost half a million dollars – are not just scientifically wrong but also potentially dangerous.

Don't Hate
Why are you hating on the Yanks if they are willing to spend money on players and your team is not? Why are they dumb? Wouldnt you love if your team did whatever it took every year to get the best players out there? Is this about Texeira coming to NY.....?

Nobody's hating here, it's just in our Red Sox Nation genes to hate the Yanks - they always throw $$$ at their problems, while the BoSox have thrived on building an established Farm Team system to mold their future players without breaking the bank.

It's fine with me if the Evil Empire continues believing they can solve their problems with $$$ - did the Big Unit work out so well? A-Rod? He may be the exception as I fully well expect him to have the MLB home run record withing 7 years at the pace he hits them!

Baseball - fanatical pursuit of East Costs Ego maniacs, who expect to win every World Series by spending the $$$ they have. The "BoSox" and the Yankees, both are big time spenders. No one competes with their dollars.

The good news is that it doesn't always work out that way. What is so special about Red Sox vs. Yankees anyway? Is it like Rocky vs. Apollo? I don't get it. To me, they're both big fat cat spenders.
