Police in Poland say an 8-year-old boy saved his sister and three drunk adults from a fire by calling police and fighting the flames before help arrived. The fire started outside the door of the boy's apartment in the western town of Miedzyrzecz late Monday.

Police said Tuesday that the boy was unable to wake up his mother or two men — all of whom were intoxicated — so called the emergency number himself.

Brave little boy. Sad he and his sister live in an atmosphere like that.

Huffpost - PETA wishes Obama hadn't swatted that fly
June 17, 2009 11:43 PM EST | AP

WASHINGTON — The group People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals wants the flyswatter in chief to try taking a more humane attitude the next time he's bedeviled by a fly in the White House.

PETA is sending President Barack Obama a Katcha Bug Humane Bug Catcher, a device that allows users to trap a house fly and then release it outside.

NEW YORK (CNN) -- A 49-year-old man impersonated his dead 77-year-old mother in paperwork -- and sometimes in person -- for six years, collecting more than $100,000 in her name, according to the Brooklyn district attorney.

The man sometimes dressed as his mother and, with an accomplice, collected more than $52,000 in Social Security benefits and another $65,000 in city rent subsidies, prosecutors said.

Royal Navy sailors hurl Ronald McDonald into Chilean harbour

Two Royal Navy sailors have appeared in a Chilean court for stealing a life-sized plastic statue of Ronald McDonald from an outlet of the popular animal-products-in-a-bun globocorp. The mischievous matelots were thought to have hurled the tasteful icon of American capitalism into the harbour.

Couple floats into zero gravity nuptials

ABOARD G-FORCE ONE (Reuters) - The bride wore white and earrings resembling tiny planets, the groom a tuxedo and cuff links shaped like spacecraft, and the wedding party attended in blue jump suits.

New York City couple Erin Finnegan and Noah Fulmor floated into matrimony on Saturday thousands of feet (metres) above the Gulf of Mexico in what organizers said was the world's first weightless wedding held in zero gravity conditions.

Latest from my 'lawyer calendar'..

"DA: Defense Counsel is accountable to you (the jury).

Counsel: Judge, I object to that. I object to him referring to me as a cannibal, Judge.

Judge: He said accountable.

Counsel: A what?

Judge: He said accountable, not a cannibal.

Counsel: It sounded like cannibal to me and I object."

Bay Area couple: 'He stole my house!'

One Bay Area couple had a little surprise waiting for them when they returned from a long vacation. A stranger had moved into their home, changed the locks and put the couple's belongings in the garage. When they confronted the man, he delivered another shocker.

"We said, 'This is our home,' and he said,'This is my home'," Tom Decker said of the Ben Lomond "dream" home he and his wife Maria McArthur planned to live in when they retired.

But according to the Santa Cruz Sentinel, the new resident, 66-year-old Daniel Judd, produced the deed to the property, essentially shutting out the couple until authorities could clear things up.
