I guess the manufacturer forgot to kill the snake before they sent out the snake-skin boots to Wal-mart!

Man Bitten By Rattlesnake At Texas Wal-Mart

POSTED: 12:32 p.m. EDT September 30, 2003

BROWNWOOD, Texas -- Police say a man was bitten by a rattlesnake while shopping for shoes in a Wal-Mart store in Texas.

Douglas Hatchett of Brownwood was examining shoes on a rack when a rattlesnake concealed behind a shoebox bit him Monday. The snake fell to the floor, where Hatchett stomped it to death.

Police, fire and emergency medical crews were called to the scene.

The 31-year-old shopper and the dead snake were hustled to Brownwood Regional Medical Center. There, the snake was confirmed as a rattler, and Hatchett was treated and released.

Wal-Mart officials say the matter's being investigated and they have no comment.

Brownwood is about 120 miles southwest of Fort Worth.

Speaking of lawsuits......went to a local buffet last night....some guy dropped a lime, slipped on it, dropped his plate of perfectly prepared pasta (wow, 4 p's ) and obviously fell......all I wanted to do is get to the sour cream......all these people have the area roped off so security can come and take photos should the bozo decide to sue......

what a wonderful world we live in...

Isn't that ridiculous!! And a true lawsuit like my Mom's malpractice suit over her untimely death take years with no where near the amount of money these bozos will get!

These 'bozos' know that it'll be cheaper for the casino to 'settle' for some amount, than to fight it with lawyers, even though they have lawyers on the payroll

And not to demean the lawsuit that you are speaking of....but sometimes, if people were to seek 'reasonable' damages rather than the multi-millions that they never would have/could have earned if they'd lived to be 200, would help too

My Dad never had a set amount to sue for. The first offer off the tables was $5000....not quite a fair amount for a Drs error that cost my Mom her life. We ended up settling after 5 years for $250,000 because my Dad was getting ill and tired of the hassle. We ended up walking away with $83,000 after the lawyer's cut. Nice how the lawyer gets more than the family.

My Mom was a professional cake maker and made an average of $1000 every weekend on just wedding cakes alone. I don't know how she did all that work...but her cakes were gorgeous...masterpieces! You could give her a picture of anything and she could make it into a cake! And she was one heckuva loving Mom and wife and friend! No $$$ amount could ever replace her! 25 years and it still seems she passed away yesterday. I know how bad Jim is feeling.

I agree people are getting ridiculous in the $$$ amounts they want in lawsuits! Rodney King didn't deserve $3.8 million!! He was partially responsible for his actions in the first place! Grr!!

Again, not to try to attempt to demean the settlement, but certainly that was a deal that was made with your attorney prior or during the case.......

I wouldn't know Candy as my Dad did all the dealings with the attorney. I would assume they set an amount though. I just remember that we were upset by the $5000 offer as if her life meant nothing and as if her Dr should walk away scot free. He contributed to the death of a human being and a little money let him walk away from his mistakes. Sad thing is that the nurse on duty was just as negligent as the Dr for not reporting my Mom's symptoms in a timely manner. I wasn't a nurse then...but it made me a much better nurse when I became one as I know assessment is so important and so is contacting the Dr no matter what time it is! I'm one that was never afraid of the Drs I had to call and had a good rapport with all of them...but some nurses actually fear "bothering" Drs late at night. If my call can save a patient then screw the Drs sleep!

Ok rambled enough!

I've still been thinking about this angel......my sister is working towards her doctorate, and one thing that weighs heavy on her mind is lawsuits. I guess one must stop and wonder, in our society, WHEN, IF, someone with the skills that can save you, is TOO AFRAID of a pending lawsuit if the action they take isn't satisfactory to your situation.

Candy... malpractice suits aren't that simple. A person has to meet the medical liability criteria to even have a suit to begin with.

Edited for typo...

When I had my second baby (my son) I woke up at 3:30 am with pains. I waited till 4 am to call may dr. This was my second child - so I KNEW they were the real thing. Well I called at 4 am & the dr. said " well call back at 7am & see how things are" Well at 7 still very much in labor & having sat there at home in pain I called the dr's number to be told that the dr. had gone out of town on vacation......... WOW small p**sed off pregnant woman!!!! And of course since I was so far along when I got to the hospital they couldn't give me the regular epidural.. & the stuff they did give me wore off......

Needless to say the dr. better thank his lucky stars I was so blissfully happy about my little guy that I forgot to emasculate him when he came back from vacation.....
Everyone is just human. I realize that & mistakes are made, but that was deliberate- period.

Angel, so sorry to here of your Mom. To lose a parent is cataclysmic, but for them to be stolen... I can't imagine.

You aren't talking to the right attorney........you don't have to meet any criteria to sue for anything.......

I have seen road side malpractice lawsuits filed, where someone stops to aid someone in a tragedy situation.......makes one think a second time whether to stop and render aid or not.......

I've had several neurological problems for yrs, including epilepsy, a Dr. (quack) we were seeing for a short time, kept telling me (and dwelling on it,) that she had never had a patient on disability for epilepsy, (ignoring all the other problems,) and finally told me my problem was due to my father being an alcoholic yrs. ago, or maybe I was just depressed.

The problem with America is stupidity. I'm not saying there should be a capital punishment for stupidity, but why don't we just take the safety labels off of everything and let the problem solve itself?
