POSTED: 10:37 am EST November 30, 2005

FRANKLIN, Pa. -- Pennsylvania police said a man who died after being struck by a vehicle may have been left on a roadside for days because his body was apparently mistaken for a dead deer.

Police said the man was found on Monday by a motorist, who at first thought the man was a deer because of tan clothing and snow that covered part of his body.

Brothers Die in Crashes Just Minutes Apart

Thursday, December 08, 2005 4:35 a.m. ET
By BRUCE SCHREINER Associated Press Writer

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (AP) -- Two brothers died within minutes of each other early Wednesday in separate traffic crashes in a rural county where their father is a sheriff's deputy.

Rory McDowell, 23, and Cory McDowell, 21, were pronounced dead a couple of miles from the home they shared with their father
, Andy McDowell, in southwestern Kentucky's Warren County.

Andy McDowell was not on duty at the time but was taken to Rory's crash. He later was driven past Cory's fiery crash, not knowing his younger son was involved in it.

Photos on Cell Phone Lead to Drug Arrests

Wednesday, December 28, 2005 5:12 a.m. ET

FARMINGTON, Conn. (AP) -- Six teenagers were arrested on drug charges after a parent flipping through a cell phone found a text message and photo advertising a pound of marijuana for sale, police said.

Police said teens in Farmington would call teens in Shrewsbury, Mass., to arrange to buy drugs. The Massachusetts teens then allegedly used cell phones to take pictures of their merchandise and send them to Connecticut.

A parent found one of the advertisements on a child's cell phone and called police. They obtained warrants to monitor additional calls and narrow down locations where the sale could take place, Devine said.

The teen whose parent found the advertisement was not involved in the sale and had simply received a text message about it, Devine said.

On Friday night, Farmington police stopped a car and arrested six teens. Devine said police found and seized less than a pound of marijuana, several hundred dollars, drug paraphernalia and cell phones.

Police charged three 15-year-olds from Farmington with possession of marijuana and drug paraphernalia. A 15-year-old from Massachusetts was charged with possession of marijuana with intent to sell.

"These were affluent kids who were selling drugs to other affluent kids," Devine said. "They weren't trying to make a profit to support themselves or their family; they were doing it for fun."

Leave Beaver to it...
Beaver causing damage at Lewis Ginter has been euthanized

From NBC12 News

Wednesday, December 28, 2005

A beaver that's been causing thousands of dollars worth of damage at Lewis Ginter Botanical Gardens in Henrico has been euthanized.

The Richmond Times-Dispatch reports a federal wildlife control marksman shot the animal this morning. The beaver had been gnawing shrubs and knocking over prized trees for about a month causing 30-thousand dollars in damage.

State wildlife officials say they had to kill the animal because relocating beavers doesn't work.

Former Iraq Hostage Makes Bizzare TV Appearance

Susanne Osthoff, the recently released German hostage in Iraq, raises eyebrows by giving an incoherent television interview in a concealing headdress.

If former hostage Susanne Osthoff had been better advised, she probably would have opted against appearing on German television entirely covered in a black headscarf. The hijab, which left only a pair of slits for her eyes, made the freed hostage look like a disturbing cross between a Chechen Black Widow suicide bomber and a ninja.

L.A. Times Prints Quote From Fake Release

Wednesday, December 28, 2005 7:05 p.m. ET

GREEN RIVER, Wyo. (AP) -- A quote in a fake news release that was intended as an April Fool's joke ended up in a front-page story in the Los Angeles Times.

The story in Tuesday's editions of the Times noted how successful the reintroduction of wolves had been 10 years ago, but said the predators remained controversial.

"In Wyoming, for example, Gov. Dave Freudenthal last April decreed that the Endangered Species Act is no longer in force and that the state 'now considers the wolf as a federal dog,' unworthy of protection," the story read.

The Times printed a correction Wednesday, acknowledging that the news release was a hoax
.

Woman Fights Uncle Sam To Prove She's Alive

CROWN POINT, Ind. -- Thelma Saberniak has a message for Uncle Sam -- she's not dead.
http://www.wsoctv.com/money/5815387/detail.html

Reminds me of the first time I tried to e-file my income taxes. The Social Security Administration had my date of birth as 5/8/1865. I had to go to the local SSA office with a copy of my birth certificate to straighten it out. When my turn came up, I explained to the humorless woman on the other side of the counter the situation and said "I must look really good to be 134 years old because our government just doesn't make mistakes like that." She didn't think that was very funny.
