T.S. Claudette pretty much making landfall now, as winds near the GOM in Florida are gusting to and even over 50MPH. I think it's possible that Bermuda may really be impacted by Bill, espeiscally if the strong cold front/trough that's expected to move east to near the East Coast late this week into the weekend plays a signifcant role in the steering of Bill.

Well, I see I have a partner in posting these maps. Great! Another poster used to share duties with me but she passed away some time ago. Hope the curve that's showing up north actually takes place. My home - New York City/Long Island couldn't take a Cat 3 storm. A strong Cat 1 would be devastating there. Construction, especially out on Long Island isn't designed for that kind of wind strength.

Yeah, I'm all into the weather, and have taken interest in weather for over half of my life. Still looks as if a strong cold front will make its way through here, and will probably play a large role in the path of Hurricane Bill late in the week. According to the NHC, NYC has a 5-10% chance of getting sustained tropical storm force winds from Bill through 5 days (obviously near the end of 5 days.)

Hi golddust - nice to meet you! I'm from LI too and am praying we don't get hit by this. I'll keep an eye ( hurricane humor) on your weather reports.

Hi Laura

Have family on the south shore of Long Island (Copiague and Valley Stream). Mom lives on the north shore in an assisted living facility. My brother isn't too far from the shore so he's the one I'm most concerned about. I used to live out in Selden but moved to Florida in '85.

They used to watch the Weather Channel to find out what storms were doing down here and that station always made it look like we were being wiped out. We're on the Gulf coast north of Tampa. Now with the internet, I told my brother which sites to watch to get the real story. When Andrew hit back in the early 90's the Weather Channel made it look like all of Florida was getting belted - in reality, the sun was out all day and only a gentle breeze came now and then where we are.

Not to be a harbinger of ill news but you folks do realize that NY is lonnnng overdue for a hurricane. I think the last big one hit "Hog Island"? and that the island is just now returning to the surface. Saw it on a history or discover channel and that locals were seeing the sandbar come back at low tide and had found numerous artifacts from the old homes, etc.

I know where overdue - that why I'm worried. I'm less than a mile from Great South Bay - Fire Island will take the biggest it if this one comes to shore.
