except for the 'wasting money on space' part. You sorta got that dead wrong.

Other than that, though........

I think we already have enough chaos here on earth, why not try to solve the problems here first before we thing of escape?
What the heck does it help us, if there is water on the moon? Why waste billions on space research. Nothing will ever help us down here, since the circumstances are not the same.
Because the unknown offers hope, eh? We know what doesn't work, so try the next thing, eh?

It's all about a once-in-????-years alignment of the planets, I think. I'll consult my

ephemeris if some-one can give me a date or even a month in 2012 when this is

supposed to happen.

Explain, what did anyone ever get out of space research

Don't misunderstand me, I am intrigued by all those pictures, the challenges, human try to overcome, the technologies created for it, but for all that money, we might not loose our houses, have decent healthcare, have better education for everyone.
That money could support the human race better, we might not have any wars.

And remember, we never know if we see something REAL or just Hollywood.

Maybe we didn't need the Mayans to tell us, the world is coming to an end, we are ruining earth ourselves.
I DO worry, what will happen if the world doesn't end (I don't think it will), what damage has been done already to Mother Earth? Because we might live but in what kind of an existence?
It won't matter how poor or rich one is, no more trees = no air = no life

You just enter 2012 in Google and it's amazing how many pages are about this. There are for sure a lot of people pre-occupied with this idea, of what and if it will happen.

growing up with a father who was a veep at Martin-Marietta, I was pretty closely involved with everything space related from my earliest memory.

As far as benefits from space related research goes, I wouldn't even know where to start, they are that vast.

I would recommend googling space research benefits and wading through the myriads of pdf's that will float your way.

ok, valis, I will. I guess you are biased, like we all would be, if whatever the case is, is close to us.
I am just wondering what the average person got out of it. (Notice: got, not gets)

I'll know more, once I read about this.

Thank you, bp, I'll do that.

What I am worried about, seriously worried, is the strange weather parts of the world is

experiencing right now. In North Western England, a month's worth of rain fell in 24

hours. Whole towns and villages are under water. And in Australia, our Eastern States are

experiencing record temperatures for this time of the year. It was 30 degrees Celsius in

Melbourne at midnight. The maximum temperature in N.S.W. reached 47 degrees. Apparently

this is un-heard of in written history. And 4 people have died in Turkey because of heavy rain causing land-slides.

Interesting. I can't find an alignment of planets for the 21st December 2012 which seems to

be the date the Mayans gave for the end of the world. The only possibly unusual thing is 3

planets and the moon's node in the 12th house of Scorpio. I don't know of any

way of checking whether that has ever happened before. My guess would be that it hasn't

but the planets involved aren't particulary 'sinister' ones.

So can anyone give me another date for 2012 when this is predicted to happen? Thank you.

This doesn't have anything about the planetary line up I've heard about and the astrological chart is different from the one I drew up but it has a few theories and ideas which are interesting. http://www.astrologycourse.org/2012.htm

I do not know anything about astrology, I find it intriguing, what people see in millions of stars in the sky. Since it cannot be demonstrated to me as proof, that something will happen, I much more worry and wonder about the same thing as you a_b.

Will Nature end us? Will we humans end humanity? Is that maybe what previous generations or so called prophets predicted?

Too many recent natural disasters sure makes one wonder, what is going on with nature!

there are no other dates mentioned, that something will happen.

I wouldn't call it biased, I would call in 'informed'.

Here's a categorized list of some of the applications that have resulted directly from the space program.

enjoy!

, ok,
I am not attacking you, valis
after your last mention, I did google
Quote:
Benefits of the Space Program
and it is very interesting, with thousands of pages. Now I am more 'informed' I just wonder, couldn't the same inventions be done without going into space?
They had to invent it on earth and manufacture it here, so I am always suspicious, why governments don't have goals to improve life first here on earth.

I also noticed through other threads, that you are very knowledgeable in many things, so I would not ignore your explanations. This is how one learns by listening to all sides.

So the world will not end? but wait.....
when I was younger, I have never believed, that dinosaurs existed, until I have seen an excavation somewhere here in Canada on TV, that was amazing, but still hard for me to believe, a world (earth) without humans ever existed.
Then there was a find of very small human beings somewhere on a Pacific islands, also incredible.
Therefore I had to change my mind, that events can occur and change the history of earth,

So might there be some truth to the prediction, that the earth will change its course soon?

nope. Earth ain't going to change it's course. It may change it's magnetic polarity, but that's happened a few hundred times over it's history.

When you deal with something as large as the Earth (and it's really quite small compared to some of the things out there), it's going to take a collision by something about as big to have an effect on it's orbit.

Needless to say, if we got hit by something as big as us, I would reckon that would be the end of life as we know it.

But by simply having the earth, sun, and galactic center line up, nothing. Neat trick, absolutely zero gravitational influence.

I must not have clarified the question right, I meant the course of humanity, like from dinosaur, to apes or humans, etc. (considering all the recent natural events, there might be something there.) I wish they would find the illusive Atlantis, then I could be more scared, that things CAN change.
