Question Is this really spyware??
A friend of mine recently recommended a chat program called three degrees . I had never heard of it but was told that it works great with XP and has a lot of cool features.
Well I did a search for it tonight and found a lot of articles that categorized it as spyware!!!

So, is it a good IM program or is it really spyware??? I would like to hear any opinions, good or bad, regarding this program.

Thanks
Lisa

I did about an hours research of Microsofts\Net Gens new ThreeDegrees chat program and no where in the researched articles did it Spyware. It uses P2P technology for file sharing and requires Broadband connection and WinXP Sp1 in order to operate but other than that no spyware reference. Have not read the EULA to see if there is something there but I would not classify it as Spyware just because of P2P sharing.

Do you have some other spyware related references that can be looked at since ThreeDegrees was just released?

Dave,

thanks for your reply. I reckon I may have jumped the gun when reading the excert's I got from my 'spyware hunt'!!!

The links I gave are where I got my negative reaction from, I have since been reading a lot of positive claims about the program. I'm not a believer yet but I'd like to be as it seems like a great program

I cannot say 100% as no one can but I believe allot of the misperception of Spyware at this point is due to the P2P share capability. This is not to say our Friendly Microsoft hasn't embedded something in the program unseen yet! If you feel it is a program for you at this point then I personally would try it.

Since you are one of the first to try ThreeDegrees why not give us a review on it after you have used it for awhile.
