Yahoo Tech Support - anyone home?
Has anyone found a way to actually get a human being to respond about problems on Yahoo? For months, I've not been able to upload any files to my "Yahoo Briefase" even though I follow the instructions precisely and correctly.

Drilling down through their Help choices I was finally able to find a link where one could (supposedly) send an email message to their tech support department. I sent one off and what I got back was worthless.

1) A canned suggestion that I download the latest version of MSIE, even though I had already pointed out in my original message that I was using the latest version of MSIE.

2) Perhaps someone was just sloppy, so I sent back another message, pointing out that not only had I tried that already, but that I had included that information in the original message.

3) They sent me yet another message identical to the first. Obviously all of their responses to email tech support requests are just autoresponders, not-so-cleverly disguised to look like real responses.

This is really lame. If the company does not want to provide email tech support they should just cop to it and not pretend that they do provide it. If a message sent is an automated response it should be identified as such, so that the person receiving it does not wast any more time responding to it in turn.

Shame on Yahoo!

I almost choked when I saw this . . . actual responses from Yahoo Support!!!! You've got to be kidding!! But then, you get what you pay for sometimes.

How 'bout you share the problems or errors you have experienced and let us try to help? I hadn't used the briefcase before, but have just added it to my own yahoo account, so maybe I can help you find your way. BTW, are yopu over your 30MB limit, by any chance?

Well, I finally got a message from them that suggested something which worked. They told me to dump ALL of my cookies (which is a pain as far as my access to some other websites goes) and after that it did work. (BTW, my briefcase was empty and I was just trying to upload a small file to it to check if it worked).

The response I got was still kind of weird and semi-robotic. They gave my instructions for dumping my cookies and cache in MSIE for Windows, when my message to them clearly indicated that I was running MSIE Mac/OSX. Luckily I really don't need step-by-step instructions on how deal with cookies, caches, temporary files, etc.

I don't really have high expectations of service from a free thing like Yahoo, but then if they put up a link to contact them for help then that contact should result in a real reply from a human being. If the take the position that because their service is free that they aren't going to give real tech support then they should just have the balls to admit it, rather than pretending otherwise.
