Angry BestBuy, I mean WorseBuy
I took my underwarranty(3 yr. warr.) laptop to Roseville, Mn. BestBuy, where it was purchased, to be repaired. After terribly grouchy and rude treatment, they told me Toshiba would be returning it to my home before Thanksgiving. When I told the service guy, I thought that was quite a long time, he said I could have the remaining part of my extended warranty, ($133), which is one third, and take the laptop back if it wasn't soon enough. Well, three promises later, I still did not have my laptop. I called numerous times and on Jan 4, I spent 5 hours trying to locate it and the problem. The manager, Troy, told me I could get it back right away, in the same condition and take it somewhere else to be fixed, if I did not like the service or I could buy a new laptop and when my laptop was repaired, Best Buy would refund all my money, since my laptop was a dinosaur (1 year old). It wasn't 1 year old, yet, when I brought it there. He also told me this happens about 10 times a year, so it was no big deal. It was finally returned to the store, not to me as promised, (imagine that). I picked it up yesterday and it seems to be working. I hope I can find a place with better customer service.

Don't buy computers from big stores.

Buy from smaller, local computer shops. Talk to some people and find out where the best place in your area is

Your first mistake was buing it from Beast Buy. The second was taking it to Best Buy for service. I do believe it would have still been under warranty directly from Toshiba and they would have fixed it directly.

If you bought it directly from Toshiba they would have taken far better care of you than the middle man. That's akin to buying a western Digital hard drive from them and having them BB do the warranty work on it instead of getting WD to do it for free.

An interesting link about Best Buy from disgruntled customers, and maybe more importantly EMPLOYEES. You won't believe some of the things the employees say about that company. If you decide not to visit this site and still make purchases at Best Buy, never EVER pay for their optional PSP (Product Service Plan?) warranty. Check it out here...

I know for a fact that they take employees from the sales floor and let them work on computers. I've actually seen it happen.
They are good for buying things like printers and scanners and getting the replacement warranty because I have taken things back the day before it ran out and got a new one not because it was broke but because I could. That's why I bought it for $1400 anyway.
