What Audio Format do You Use?
When moving your songs from CD to your hard drive, what audio format do you use or feel is the best?

I find it interesting that most people store digital audio useing lossy compression which degrades the audio, exspecially if your going to reconvert or recompress the file at a later date. I suggest you use a lossless compression codec for storing your audio, and don't save the conversions.

I think a large part of it is how common the audio format is. I know myself I use MP3 only because my DiscMan and Boombox can handle that format, and they were cheaper than finding one that can handle some other less known format. How much of a loss is there when compressing to MP3?

It depends upon what you use to compress it and the bitrate you choose with MP3.

WMA, 96Khz Fine for a cheap set of Altec Lansing PC speakers.
I keep the originals with my home theater system. 96 sounds crappy re-burned on it, but fine in the car.
