Hi,
This model of
LG's CDROMs is my only experience of them. That said I think I have more to say!
I bought it to burn with, and play DVDs on. It came bundled with
Nero's 'Express' software disc. My success rate in burning was practically nil. Those CDRs now line my walls! Nero was extraordinarily supportive but after trying all they suggested nothing changed. This was over a period of six months. I virtually gave up on the burning software. I was able to play CDs in the drive and DVDs so I was halfway to where I wished to be.
I was in a friendly 'Ma and Pa' computer store one day. I went there to buy a fan (and because I liked the idea of a small store). In chatting I happened to mention the 'problem' I was having with Nero. The guy looked at me with surprise. "I almost never have failures", he said. Well one thing led to another and after buying the fan I was about to leave when he handed me a small item. "Put this in and see how the burning goes".
I installed the free ribbon connector and have not stopped having successful burns since. However that sells you Nero, perhaps, so how about this for the
LG Combo 4520B?
I put smallish labels on my CDRs and to my horror one day a nasty noise came my way after I pressed the eject button on the LG drive to extract the CDR. The tray was jammed! By what? By that d....d label, is what!
I will be brief. I had to take out that drive. I had to open it up and lift the circuit board about 1/2" at one end. Then I inserted tweezers into the innards and headed for the label I could see. After several attempts and lots of prayers I got hold of it. Bye bye warranty. Would it work at all? It wasn't until I had played a CD, a DVD and done a burn job that I drew breath. And so several weeks later and many burns and great movies watched I can say, with absolute conviction.
LG is for me. Was I also lucky?
