Firefox's security
I was reading how some of your recommended Mozilla's Firefox, so I dl'd it last night and had to install Java. It worked fine and was faster than IE, so I was happy with it. I found today, tho, that it won't let me in to most of my web sites that I have a username for. How can I fix this? I added one of the sites to the popup page (and turned off the popup blocker), but it won't even let me in there. I get a timed out message, which I rarely got with IE 6. Anyone able to help me? Is the problem Firefox of Java?

PS, I'm using XP.

Using 0.9.2, have been since .7. I bet your cookies didn't migrate from IE? Or are cookies browser specific. You might have to sign in one time to each of your sites-from then on it'll be fine. Next version your profile migrates and so all your setting go to the new version. Just conjectures. Also do a Firefox search for this issue. They may have a very easy-one stop- solution. Good luck. I have IE6 for updates, Mozilla 1.7.1 and the current Firefox. Fav = Firefox. Once you are set up it's a breeze. Be sure you go to preferences, options and get all the stuff you need, like Java, set up.

Still stumped
I looked on the Mozilla site and it seems others are having that problem too. Their Tools/Options isn't much of a help either. How could things have changed since turning off the puter last night and turning it on this afternoop? Surely the reboot didn't change things....lol

I'm totally puzzled. Installed 0.9.2 a couple of weeks ago and haven't had any such problems. That is most annoying. What sort of support does Mozilla/Firefox offer? I've never needed it and so don't know the mechanics. Good luck with this issue. It is unacceptable. But FYI that is not the usual Firefox behavior.

Could it be your firewall or do you have SpywareBlaster? If you have either of those, check the settings there and update those as well. Then try again cause I had no trouble with mine once I had the proper settings on my firewall and SpywareBlaster. Liz

So far so good...
I've turned off my spy detector and so far, so good. I also got a security update from the home page, and maybe that helped. Mach, as for their help page... a dud. Why do they do that to us? lol

Thanks for your help, both of you. If there are more problems, I know where to turn!

Btw, if any of you aren't familiar with webroot.com, go there and dl the free Spy Sweeper. It's amazing. Went deeper and found so many more than Pest Patrol ever did! And when you dl, make sure you get the update immediately because it's the only chance you'll get unless you buy it. It's certainly worth the purchase!

Have you checked your Internet Options for cookie settings. They may have gotten off of where you want them set? Start>Control Panel> Internet Options, privacy tab. Just looked all over Firefox for such, but that seems to be a windows-type setting, not browser specific. Look at the advanced settings.
I use SpySweeper. Have for years. Has always been trouble free and good finds. Only problem is the lengthy scan. I set my scan for HiPriority-so its not a background thing. I've only got 7.5 Gigs on an 80Gig harddrive. Wonder how long if one had a really full harddrive.? Sorry you and others are having some trouble with such an important feature of one's computing. Once that gets settled, I think you will love it. Altho perhaps I shouln't recommend opening another thread with Just that as a issue, I think I will. Perhaps in Other software? Doesn't seem to be so many visitors at this specific forum. Lots of really expert people here. Bet you can get a quick response. Best wishes.
