Rain check runaround at a major electronic chain.
I've been waiting for a sale item from a MAJOR electronic chain; it was out of stock during the sale. Another one of their stores (only 10 minute drive from this store) had two of the hard drives in stock; which, they didn't tell me at the time of the sale. I waited three weeks, finally called. Was told one was at the store; but, they weren't sure if it was the one from my raincheck.
I drove over and found they didn't have it; but the other two hard drives were still at the other store. They wouldn't honor my raincheck at another one of their stores. They checked the central warehouse and their inventory was Zero. The manager of the store wanted me to wait an additional 7-10 days; paying ahead of time to order one from the warehouse (remember, the warehouse had zero in stock). I, said why not have the other store ship it to my house and I would pay for it at this store. They wouldn't do that, and since the sale was over, if I went to the other store I'd pay the new price of the hard drive. Original price, $179, on sale at, $99; told me it was now, going for $249! I, checked it out; they were wrong again (that was the price for the external, not internal hard drive), it was still, $179 (but not on sale).
Finally, argued to get the item delivered to the store from the other one; buying it without having to wait for the factory rebate.
Needless, to say, it was frustrating. The customer service varies from store to store within the chain. This one was bad, but others with the chain have been good.
I, still like to use the internet for some of my purchases; especially, from the electronic stores in NYC. Just bought a Viewsonic Nextvision N6 with a 1 year extension on the warranty for, $196 delivered and a pending $30 rebate from, Viewsonic. That store, J&R electronics is worth checking out, before you burn up expensive fuel and yourself, at a brick and mortar store.

I would send an email to their corporate office. Bad customer service is a pet peave of mine and I find that pitching a ***** is usually rewarded.

Yes, do this as soon as possible and give all the details you gave to us.

Most MAJOR outlets want to protect their reputation and sometimes the
"head honchos" never get to hear about these horror stories so they can
make sure they don't happen in the future.

umm...what was the name of that store anyway?
(it'll be our secret)

Franchises are funny about how much they want to protect themselves. I once worked at a Subway a while back when we got a letter from the Franchise saying we could leave notes around the restaurant stating what things needed to be cleaned when for the safety of our jobs where a customer could see it! Some old lady say it and wrote in I guess.
I never buy from "brick and mortar" places anymore, they almost never have good prices compared to online retailers.
We would all like to know who this stare was too!
