folder lock secure files can be seen over a unix network
hi
i too have folder lock
at first i thought it was soo cool lookgin with its animating key turnigng
then i heard about its superior encryption
and how no one could see any of my files
however i found out anyone connectefd to a network frorm a unix system
can read every one of your locked files
please everyone pass this information on over the internet
folder lock can be a very dangerous tool leasking out all your information
completeley vulnerable and unprotected
i give folder lock a rating of a 2

i also have safebit program
im not sure how secure that is as of now

hi
yes i know what your saying
when i used windows XP i was using i using
counterspy (antispyware)
Eset nod32 (antivirus)
and Outpost (Firewall)

back to folder lock
i was able to view all of my Windows XP personal locked files and foldsers and photos from a Unix Networked PC
the only thing was i was not able to delete them
so i give folder lock a pat on the back for that one
but they really shoud work on making it much more secure
test it from a unix networked PC

Now, if you install my software and you have the Klez virus, the installation of my package will render your system unbootable. If you install my package on a corrupted file system (extremely common problem in Windows) then you will get unpredictable results.

I can't do anything about it. My package installs fine and works fine on all systems that are themselves properly maintained and in good condition, but I have no idea at all what will happen when you just try to slap it onto an already hosed system - and my package operates in Windows at a very high level, pretty much the top of the OS, which means that its dependence on proper system operation is less than that of many other things.

Folder Lock operates in Windows at a lower level, and one would expect therefore that it would have more extensive requirements for cleanliness of the system than my package has since it hooks in more deeply.

My point is this. In the vast, vast majority of cases where a software install goes badly wrong, it happens because there was something wrong with the system in the first place that the software package couldn't cope with. This is not always true; I personally have encountered seriously defective software from the vendor, and it does occasionally happen.

But not usually.

Before installing a new software package, you should run chkdsk on the system to ensure the file system is cleaned up, and you should also make sure that the system is free of spyware, viruses, trojans etc because any of those things can interfere with the installation in a fashion that the software developer cannot predict and cannot guard against.
This post smells just like it sounds. Folder Lock is a burn and if you cannot build software that can handle the "instabilities" of XPSP2 then maybe you should go back to parking cars or something.

windrvNT.sys
I am dismayed that the company would continue releasing this product. I have suffered at the hands of this program, files lost, not been able to access my files in front of customers, the latest is the BSOD with the error been a file called "windrvNT.sys", I read many reviews on this product before using, now I know why it was rated so highly, for the company to be bribing customers with 25 dollars of software so they can get a 5 star rating is tottally not acceptable. windrvNT.sys is one way saved me from losing more data at least I knew what was causing the problem, I googled it and it comes from the installation of FolderLock, this file conflicts with so many other programs, if you are one of the lucky people using it and have no problems I suggest you back up your data elsewhere, FolderLock will eventually crash your system. I pride myself on the condition of my pc and to think that I allowed a piece of trash like this program to run on it frustrates me,,
my final word is BEWARE

Thanks for the previous post my XP box just croaked. Managed to get in with a boot CD and removed all references to "windrvNT.sys" from the registry. Everything now seems to be working OK. I won't be using 'Lock folder' again.

Wonderful Solution for Folder Lock Hiccups
Hi,

Get moveonboot program to delete all empty folders rendered undeletable by Folder Lock, at http://www.emco.is/moveonboot/features.html; An absolutely marvelous piece of software.

I promise I will never even think of Folder Lock again ... it is the worst program ever!
And listen to the developers' beating their drums! The guys are criminals.

I have sort of come to terms with Folder Lock -- I have it installed on an external hard drive, not on my normal C: drive. When I had it on C: it prevented me from using Windows Movie Maker, but on the external drive it seems benign enough. Yes, it means that stuff that I want to lock has to be physically on the external drive, but that is what I wanted to do anyway. Btw, my computer is a Vista machine. Just FYI.

Hi

I need your help. I have a problem with your folder Lock 5.6.3. However I just lock the folders with simple hide files with simple password. When I want to Unlock the folders with files I type a password, but I don’t see any more files and the files and subfolders are still hidden ) not shown, empty. If I use a Proprieties of hidden folder then show me that the size of hidden folders is full of files. They are not deleted. What Can I do? Help me, please.

Best regards,

I use Folder Lock, my version is 5.7.5. In the folder where you installed your Folder Lock, when you try to unlock with your password, do you have a sub folder named 'Locker'? --your locked files are in the Locker folder.

I have a Folder Lock directory and sub directories. However if I type password the Folder Lock is empty. I'm really scared that I lost my diploma and other document. However If I copy Empty folder lock to another partition meanwhile I see names of copied files.
