F-Secure... Worth it?
Trying this F-Secure .. So far I hate it..

It stands out as one of the only to detect "root kits", and prevent them from installing..

Sure it's an all in one, firewall, anti-virus, spam controll... bla bla..
But my boot up and shut down times have more than doubled with this program..

I was pretty good with my other setup.. SpyBot, Spyware Blaster, adaware, ZoneAlarm.. Thats all I had..

Then my PC guy starts telling me about root kits, and how dangerouse they are.. He tells me this is one of the few who can detect and prevent root kits..

OK, cool I want to be safe.. But at what cost?. Sheesh this thing is slow..
I don't think viruses slow it this much... Ok, that's a stretch, but come on..

Anyone have nice things to say about it?

lol, i remember having to support this piece of junk... I'm so glad i left that job.

The AV is good, but the rest is useless, the firewall slows the PC to a crawl, the spam filter simply doesn't work and the dial-up control, although a good idea, is very poorly implemented.

If you want the AV, go for the stand alone version and dump the rest.

So if I dump the rest.. I can still have the Root Kit protection?..
And I can go back to Zone Alarm for the firewall?...

That might be sweet...
Any tips on how to cut it down to just the AV?.. I was told it can only be installed twice befor you need to reformat and try again.. Is that true?

Sorry, what i meant was to get the stand-alone software (http://www.f-secure.com/estore/uk/fsav2006.shtml), I don't think the full package can be trimmed down, only disabled. You could contact f-secure and ask them to exchange the license, I'm sure they are aware of the flaws in the full package

I tried disabling all but the AV stuff and it's still just as slow..

Any tweak tips?.. What to keep and what can go?..

OK, uninstalled it all.. speed is back, so I will go with my old setup, and look into just getting the AV, though I think that is most of the slow down..

Sofar the verdict..... NOT worth it.. At least the full security version.

Yeah, uninstalling is definitelthe way to go. One thing though, sometimes uninstalling doesn't remove everything. So if you notice any problems, theres a removal tool on the website.

?.. Nothing I noticed.. I deleted two of it's folders and had two programs scan the registry and clear the now invalid entries for f-secure.
