I use to use winamp. It sounded like garbage. I just tried windows media player. I sounds great and its layout is so much cleaner. Now I am the kind of person that looks to expand my horizons beyond micrsoft's grasp whenever possible but I have to give microsoft the thumbs up on this one. Any other opinions? Any other players I might try?

What sort of sound card do you have? On my Creative Labs Sound Blaster Live, MediaPlayer and Winamp sound the same to me -- loud and clear.

Its an elements mobo w/onboard sound and a via chipset. That could be the problem. But i'm just glad one of them works.

I agree, with most sound cars and most, and I repeat most, desktop speakers, both players are equally competent. I would check for some sort of conflict or driver problem. Was Winamp all that distorted or problematic?
