Need recommendations on On-line backup services
I need recommendations, accounts of personal experience and links to independent reviews of on-line backup services.

To be clear, this is off-site, over-the-internet, automated backup of a few mission critical files.

I found this article in PCMag; but, it is three years old.

Carbonite.com for example encrypts your data before it leaves your computer.
Typically many of these companies have 1000s or even millions of customers. What is the chance that they will go and snoop around your files. I am sure they have better things to do. Some companies let you choose your own encryption key. In that case they can not access your files even if they want to. The disadvantage in that case is that if you loose your key then your data is lost for ever.

carbonit won;t work for me as I am looking to back up files so I can delet them from the hard drive as I am running out of space. Carbonite will delete these files from the backup if they aren't on the hard drive.

Then you should try Data Deposit Box. It's an online backup tool but unlike others, it will not delete the files if you delete them from your PC. If you want to delete files you can. But it doesn't do it without asking.

I have been using Mozy backup for 6 months with absolutely no problems.I think you can now get an account with 2gb for free. I have a paid account to backup my selected files whenever changes or new additions are added to the folders I specify. It works seamlessly in the background. Here the link www.mozy.com
