Hi
I am looking to buy a new Pc and was hoping for a little advice, especially when it comes to the Processor. I looked at Pc yesterday that had a,
Intel Pentium D Processor915
(2.8Ghz, 800MHz, 2x1MB cache
Is it possible someone could briefly explain this?
Many thanks

The Intel Pentium D is the Dual Core version. And it is exactly what it sounds like, its two processor cores in one. The Dual Cores are faster and more energy efficient then regular processors. I have a Dual Core and a Pentium 4 system. On the Pentium 4 system, i can't burn a DVD while playing a video game without the game being a lot slower and with all the glitches. On my Dual Core system, i can Burn a DVD and play a video game at the sametime with A LOT less glitches in the game. The Pentium D processor is probably all you would need, and at 2.8 GHZ i would assume thats enough. The new Intel Core 2 Duo's are coming out though, i believe some places already have them? not sure, but i know those are a lot more expensive.

Go with a Dual Core, Pentium D should surpass your expectations, Especially if you got 1GB of RAM to go along with it 8-)

I just bought a comp with AMD Athlon64 X2 4200 Plus 2.2GHz Dual-Core, and I love it, it flies. Havent had a problem yet, I dont do too much multitasking but if I ever need to in the future I wont have a problem. Definitely think about what you are going to be using your comp for and work from there. If it's just for the internet and word processing then thats pretty basic but if you're thinking about gaming, movies, graphics all that stuff demands more power and a good graphics card.

I would go with an AMD--the Pentiums run too hot.

Yeah, I'd say the same, Intel runs very hot, and you'd need a very good source of cooling, AMD's run a lot cooler.
