Exclamation PestPatrol is a pest
I will say I haven't used the product for a few years but from what I've heard it hasn't changed much since then.
Main problem is way too many false positives and even of stuff like java components(from my own experience).
That may be barely acceptable for a free product but it's not, they expect you to pay for a product with these kind of issues.
On the flip side it does also seem to catch most of the nasties.
The strange thing is company who make it, Computer Associates(CA) are known for decent products(excluding this one of course) so why have they made such a crap product?

I had it for a year free and your right to many false hits. I got rid of it before the free year was up, and bought BOClean.

I don't think I've ever heard of BOClean before. What is it and can you possibly give a link to its site?

I agree with SIR****TMG's recommendation. BOClean is absolutely one of the very best. Its home website is NSclean. And over yonder is their Support Forum.

BOClean is not free. If you seek a superb FREE anti-spyware with a real-time monitor, on-demand full-system scanner, right-click scanner, frequent updates, that offers grrrreat detection/cleaning, I heartily recommend Spyware Terminator.

Spyware Terminator is not free and is actually on the rogue anti-spyware list.

Yeah you gotta be careful these days, until about a year ago I didn't even realise rouge anti-spyware programs existed and now when I look at how many there are.

Yeah I use that, trial run out but I use it with those limited features. It's one of the best, Spy Sweeper is great too but haven't got that anymore.

Your mis-information indicates that you need to try & hone your research skills.

The site you linked to NEVER considered Spyware Terminator as being in any way malicious. It put the software on 3 months probation - a probation which ended over 15 months ago. If you READ the site linked to by "person" you will see their explanation of why they put Spyware Terminator on temporary probation. They fully explain the temporary probation of Spyware Terminator HERE which, in the interest of injecting truth to counter "person's" misinformation, I quote as follows...
Quote:
Note on SpywareTerminator: We originally listed Spyware Terminator on this page out of concerns that Crawler, the company behind the product, had established connections with IBIS, a well known adware distributor responsible for such adware programs as Wintools, Websearch, & Huntbar. Although we found no problems in our initial testing with Spyware Terminator, and while the vendor itself announced that it was exiting the adware business (1), we decided out of caution to impose a three month probation period before we would consider re-testing and, if warranted, de-listing the the product from the Rogue/Suspect list. During that three month probation period we monitored the behavior of IBIS and Crawler. At the end of the three month probation period we re-tested Spyware Terminator, again finding no problems serious enough to justify listing the program on this page. As the vendor involved has not been involved in the distribution of adware for many months, and as the program itself exhibits no problems serious enough to warrant mention on this page, we have decided to de-list Spyware Terminator from the Rogue/Suspect list and can no longer regard the program to be "rogue/suspect."

Note: not to be confused with Spyware X-terminator from Stompsoft

Furthermore, Spyware Terminator is a favorite at security-specialized forums such as Wilders. See THIS extensive and INFORMED discussion of Spyware Terminator for example.

And YES -- Spyware Terminator is absolutely & unequivocably free.

Ok I apologise for not doing my research so extensively , however at least this has lead to the explanation of why it was on the list and a link to a debate about it. I don't like to use any former rogue anti-spyware programs myself because if they were on the list once well that's enough for me. However everyone should read this more accurate information and make a decision for themselves.
