IBM Thinkpad??
Hi

Presently l have a Thinkpad 600x which has died and l'm going to be replacing it today or tomorrow the latest. I want WIFI !!!!!!

What do you think about the T-23 or T-40 I really on use it for the internet and e-mailing.
In my office l have dial up and at home l have DSL but l also have a PC at home.

Whatever you help me with will be appreciated or to steer me in the right direction.

Thanks

Alan

Since all new laptops (that I'm aware of) come with a built-in wireless adapter, you'll need to provide more specific requirements as to what you're looking for in a laptop. The slowest, biggest, and cheapest laptop on the market will come with wireless and handle Internet web surfing and e-mail just fine.

What kind of games? Intensive, FPS games will require a high-end gaming laptop which will be heavy, have a short battery life, and cost a good amount.

All new laptops can be configured to come with 512MB of RAM and come with hard drives greater than 20GB. I've not seen a 20GB laptop hard drive in quite some time.

As for the best wireless, there really isn't such a thing. Many factors go into a good wireless connection, and the laptop's adapter is just one small part. Stick with a good name brand laptop, and this will be a non-issue.

EDIT: You should probably think a bit more about what you really want a laptop for. Your first post says primarily Internet browsing and e-mail, and now you mention that you want to use it to game. Those uses have very different requirements. Since you also have another computer at home (you say "PC", am I to assume it's a desktop?), do you really need a gaming laptop? You could get a good, reliable laptop for browsing and e-mail for $600. To get a decent gaming machine will cost 2-4 times as much, up to $3000.

OS question
Thanks your 100% correct about the gaming.

Right now l'm trying to decide which Thinkpad that l want to go with.

T-23 and the T-40 The rest of them have different issues at least what PC World mag says. What is confusing is the operating systems. They say that XP is already loaded and comes with the COA.
My question is what happens if l have to reload XP because of a problem?

Thanks

Alan

I've not worked specifically with ThinkPads in a while, so I would suggest contacting Lenovo to ask them about restore options. Perhaps they provide a restore partition from which you can create disks.

Think pads were and still remain the Rock of Gilbralter----Usually you can get a disk for a nominal fee. As Double Helix said, contact them and check it out.
