External HD Enclosure Reviews
I have a laptop and got an external HD enclosure for a 3.5 drive and a 300 gig HD to use to backup my system. However, the enclosure is bad and overheats really easily which makes it disconnect from the system pretty quickly sometimes giving me a "Windows delayed write failed" message. I have done some looking and have found that this overheating problem is common to other enclosures as well. I am interested in getting a new one but was wondering what your experiences have been with external HD enclosures. Please post the name/brand of the enclosure, pros/cons, price, and where it can be purchased. Thanks.

I have an aluminum enclosure without a fan made by CompUSA. This is the one which is giving me problems. I have read reviews of others who have bought this enclosure as well, and it seems to be a problem for everyone. Do not buy a CompUSA brand external enclosure.

Odd..........I bought one of those CompUSA external drive enclosures several months ago and it works perfectly.
I put a 60gig drive in it from another computer.
I usually don't leave it on constantly, but the times I have, it's only warm to the touch after 8 to 10 hours.
I only use it for backups.
I don't run any programs from it.
