Hughes Satellite FAP
Nothing really new here. I often complain about my satellite broadband. I've got one kid going off to college and another one that will (hopefully knowing him) go in 4 years. My wife and I are planning to move then and I'll be sure that where we go has cable.

Somehow Steam got into my startup list and on Friday it downloaded a game update which was quite a large download. Well that ran me up against Hughes" Fair Access Policy that allows you so many MBs downloaded daily and they crippled my speed. Things were slower than early dialup.

I've had Satellite TV since it first hit the area years ago and would recommend it highly. OTOH you would have to be crazy to get satellite broadband if there is an alternative. Which of course there sometimes isn't.

Totally agree! I love hughesnet- because we have NO alternative- other than 24kbs dial up. But have been FAPPED three times. The thing that really burns me is that when they fap me they bring me down to 14kbs.- & they stated "you will still be able to use the internet it will just be slower" Well at 14kbs all you get is "page has timed out" I have just got my son to stop downloading games- He's seven & wants to download everything- even games he has on disk! Little weenie! But I haven't had any trouble since I convinced him to ask before downloading. I had tried WildBlue sat. service, but after a month of waiting for them to install I got my money back & went with Hughesnet.

Big thunderstorm just went through. Can't believe I still have a connection. (Yes I had everything off during the storm ). You're right you pretty much have no useful internet connection when they cripple your service.
