Customer support: Best and worst- tell all!!
Sorry if this thread is in the wrong place, but it is something I would love to hear about.

Once you buy hardware, it can work, or it can not work. IF it works, everything is great, if not, what do you do ? Take it back to the store you bought it from? In my experience, most will say sorry, you unwrapped it, its your problem, refer to manufacturer. So I want to hear what you think, who are the best and worst? Which hardware makers need a real good kick in the backside, which would you recommend for good service?
To start the ball rolling, here are mine.

BEST- BFG. I have a mobo and 2 8800GTS by these people. Recently an 8800 went down on me, so I tried the support site. 1 email got an almost instant response, referring me to another area. I sent off the info requested, 3 days later got a recall number. No is it this, is it that, but a straight, under LIFETIME guarantee, send it back. I sent it off ( it cost about 5 quid, cant complain for that) and 4 days later, got a new card back, well packed, sent by a good courier, worked perfectly, and no quibbles or come back. Because of this, they are now the people i prefer to use.

WORST- Asus, by a mile. Motherboard problems with known issues got a response of take it to your supplier, then "oh, check this, do this", then nothing. 18 emails, and no response. Now, when Asus are good, they are probably one of the best going, but with customer support like that, I for one will not be buying anything from them again. EVER. Period. So, from a bsd service, they have lost my custom. Its only 6 ot 7 hundred every year or so, but piss off a few people, you lose more... piss of 100 people, thats thousands lost, make it thousands.. you can see where Im going.

So, tell me whos good, whos bad, so next time I buy, I can make sure if it does go wrong, I can get something done about it. And you never know, maybe the bad ones will do something about it??

Post it, peeps, tell the eworld what yuo want!!

This goes back about 7 years and I imagine the attitude has changed.
Gateway computers.....
The first serious issue I had under warranty was resolved by the moderator of the Gateway online help site claiming I didn't own a Gateway product and threatening to ban me.
Oddly enough, that was the last Gateway product I ever bought.......

Sorry to hear your Asus didn't work out.....I built a computer early this year using one with an Asus that was recommended. No issues for me.

Newegg is a good site to check up on customer comments for specific hardware.

Everyone talks about newegg, but dont think they are in th euk,, bumer really<g>
I have asus in a couple of my other irgs, work well, bu tbecause of the probs i had, wouldnt use them again.
I was hoping to get a good cross section of what people thought, who is good , who is bad- so when you want to buy, you have an idea of who will honour warranties, and who will rip the a**e out of you. Ah, plenty of time yet <g>

If you are referring to computer parts and accessories,
I've only had one warranty issue thru Newegg. A new stick of Corsair memory tested defective.
Their RMA process seemed very efficient and a new stick of Corsair memory was sent out without delay or argument.
As a source, I would recommend them.

Gen X PC shame on you.
Here is an EMAIL CORRESPONDENCE LOVE STORY for all you romanticists out there. I really don't need to explain much, as the emails between us when I provided them feedback on their survey say it all. I'll let you make your own decisions.

SURVEY EMAIL:

From: IUSR_Jackson@Jackson
Sent: Thursday, September 06, 2007 10:32 PM
To: support@gen-x-pc.com
Subject: Data posted to form 1 of http://www.gen-x-pc.com/survey.htm

Navigation: Little confusing
Prices: Average
whosaid: Groucho

text:

The website layout is confusing and it took me a while to get used to it. I'm pretty stubborn and try to figure things out but I'm concerned that you may be losing some customers due to the layout. I would also stress the fact that somebody can just call in and talk to somebody about what they want about what they are looking for.

Response Email:

Hi ,

That's a first, most people find the navigation very very easy.

"I would also stress the fact that somebody can just call in and talk to somebody about what they want about what they are looking for."

So you mean it's good than people can call in an order or you think we shouldn't let people call in? Because our customers have always been able to call in an order. Did you not see the "Contact Us" link? Maybe it's just you who has a hard time finding things on any website.

Thank you.

My reply Email:

Lol...Wow...I've never had quite the "slap in the face" response from any company I've taking the time to give my personal feedback to. I'm more shocked than offended at this point. My favorite phrase of your response was "maybe it's just you who has a hard time finding things on any website". You might as well just called me an idiot and said "Please eF off, I don't want to listen to your feedback".

May you burn in hell Robin--Cheers, Mark

PS. I read it again and Wow, not an once of customer service...just you being defensive. lol...Im sharing this with others cause it makes me laugh.

Final Email:

Hi ,

You probably couldn't find your way around a one page website. Your first email makes no sense and the second one has spelling errors. You don't want customer service because you will not be a customer.

Thank you.

Conclusion:

So there it is. My decisions going forward are simple. I'm not going to deal with gen x pc and their average pricing/retalitory customer service. I'm also going to use spellcheck before I send an email...as accidentally spelling "ounce" with "once" is a grave offense.

I hope this helps others who were considering dealing with gen x pc. There are plenty of other reputable stores out there with better pricing and, so far with my dealings with them, some real service. Message me if you care to know a few.

I'll like to know what you guys think of Intel
Recently I tried to flash my bios on my intel MB but failed and called Intel's customer support. After the lady on the line(Btw all their support staffs are realy friendly)made a case no,she referred me to tech support. The guy on the line told me to
No1:Take out the cmos battery, wait for around n hour and see if it helps(Doesn't)
No2ownload some sort of bios recovery program from the Intel site, put it in a floppy disk and use the disk on my MB(I tried it,but, although my Mb,floppy drive and disk seems to work,It will start copying and won't stop even after # hours.I pull the drive out manually, plug it back again and started a second time. After waiting for another hour,I concluded that this method doesn't work)
If both doesn't work, call them back and they will arrange for a replacement.
So i did so the next day and the same lady on the line told me to wait for two days and someone from DHL will pickup the MB from me.I pack the Mb in the original box and waited.Sure enough after two days someone from DHL came and pickup the MB from me.After waiting for a week(sat&sun included),I received the(reconditioned?)board back.
After this experience,i think Intel's customer support is good, but not great.
Anyone else had similarly good or bad experiences with Intel?

BTW did anyone check out the GEN-X-PC website?Compared to the likes of,say,Intel,AMD or alienware,it looks like an amateur done the site! Is it any wonder that you got amateur service tucsonmm?
