NewEgg gotten too fat?? Well a few days ago i bought an Western digital external HDD system from newegg for a good price. NE reminded me that if I had a problem to go directly to WD.
It arrived and didnt work. So I called WD.
They were really nice but informed me that from serial number it was meant for shipping only to the far east. So it was not under warrenttee in the US. This was not unusual as Newegg shipped worldwide. I figured as she did that it was a shipping mistake....But it was a gray market item.
OKay called Newwegg and tried to explain to her what the techie at WD had told me. She half-undersood and would replace it. But when I mentioned that this time I wanted to make sure I had a US product she did not understand. She went to her supervisor, and after some time came back and informed me that if I got a letter from WD they would honor the WD warrentee.
I became an unhappy camper and asked to talk to the supervisor.....Long wait.
Sup told me to tell her the story as this was the first time she had spoken to me. I asked her if she hadn't talked to her level one and gotten the story etc. No response. I repeated that WD told me that NE had sold me a gray market item. She was absolutely neutral and said they would check out my story. I suggested she could then and there take the serial # and check with WD then and there. No answer.
Gave up and asked for return RMA.
So was it a mistake or is New Egg getting too slick ??
BTW I had to download the RMA and was instructed to DOWNLOAD it and be sure to cover the label with transparent tape
Kinda reminds me of GM in their good-ole days. US companies over a certain size are perfectly willing to loose a certain # of customers
