Hey mate for starters you might want to check out what they have at this site :

http://www.snapfiles.com

Click either Freeware or Shareware at the top then search by category.

Each program has a brief synopsis, appraisal of usability, functionality, and a screenshot so you can see the working interface.

I have heard good reviews of Nvu, but I have only ever used Dreamweaver ($) and these freeware apps:

HTML Kit

CSE HTML Validator

AceHTML

As a learner with near no experience i have to say i have found Notetab the easiest to use. I am also using dreamweaver but i personally am finding it quite hard to get to grips with.

Hey all,
I have heard great things about nvu (mentioned above), but I tried it before I really knew anything about HTML/CSS and didn't use it very long.

When I started the process of learning HTML and CSS, I bought an inexpensive program called WeBuilder. I really like the program, as it helped me learn.

I was thinking about going back and trying nvu again, now that I know a little something more to really see if I like it, but I haven't found that free time that I lost. Now where was that...

Nvu is a WYSIWYG editor, it's quite easy.
