Thumbs down Refurbdepot.com = Fail

Got a camera from this place the other day (just in time for christmas)

Fuju F10 (suppose to be around $400 camera, I got mine for $104)

Open the box to find SCRATCHES on the viewing display. On top of that, the camera took horrible pictures. It looks like someone puts a guassian blur layer over the picture after it is shot (even with quality settings to the max)

Took a hit to the pocket book with the 15% restock fee and paying for the shipping to me and BACK to them.

I've bought from refurb online stores before, but in no way did they send the product that actually has a defect that hinders the performance of the equipment.

Stay clear of this website, or be prepaired the pay the piper like I did.

Do you guys know of another site to rate these guys? People need to know of these kind of sites.

Better business bureau?

As far as I know, retailers can't sell you still-broken refurbs unless there's a disclaimer saying your product might contain defects. 15% restocking fee can't apply when the product arrives defective.

Here are a few examples:

Most major retail superstores offer a 30-day money back guarantee on their products and there are those consumers that just simply take advantage of that. These items are returned to the manufacturer, inspected and repackaged like new.
Items where the box or casing was damaged in shipment which are returned to the manufacturer.
The item was returned to the manufacturer because of a slight defect. The part that was defective was replaced by the manufacturer, tested and then repackaged just like new.
The item was returned because of a minor cosmetic blemish on the casing that was corrected.
Demonstration units are also considered factory refurbished. These units are inspected, tested and repackaged.
The box was simply opened. That’s it!
Brand new overstocked items are also labeled factory refurbished.
It is impossible to know the history of each item, but for whatever reason the unit gets labeled factory refurbished it is inspected & serviced by the manufacturer then tested and repackaged to meet original product specifications. All merchandise is warranted by the original manufacturer unless otherwise specified.

This is from the website.

Should I try to fight the fact that it has a physical defect?

Dude, absolutely. They can't charge you to restock it if they sold you a broken product. Even Best Buy can't hose their customers that badly.

Update on this little situation.

Looks like the emails finally worked. The actually called me (since their phone number goes to a steady busy signal, even at 10pm at night) After questioning them about that, they said they would look into it.

The told me to send the product back and to fax them a copy of the ups receipt for me having to pay for the shipping.

I'm sure they send a camera that doesn't have scratches this time, but for love of all that is holy, I hope the picture quality isn't the same. If we get the new camera and we have those same guassian blur images, I'm not sure what I'll do. No way a $400 camera (refurbed or not) takes images like this thing does. From the reviews I read, it shouldn't be taking crappy pictures.

Oh, and the wife was pretty sad that she can't use her digital camera now (especially for christmas pictures!)

Looks like this is a life lesson learned for me. Don't buy cheap... just pay the d*mn money and make the wife happy.
