I actually bought a basic Sirius radio (unopened)and about to buy a $30 prepaid Sirius card(nonreturnable).

Do i understand it is to be this easy? After activating the radio online, i just place the Sirius radio near my car radio(which has FM radio band),put up the small antenna...AND ITS DONE? The Sirius radio then uses my car radio FM band and car speakers.

My car radio is 10 years old, original radio and speakers. Will the sound coming though the Sirius connection going though my car speakers be as good or better than what i am hearing now on FM radio?

You will have to choose an unused fm frequency in your area. Do you have a cassette player? You can get a cassette adapter that sounds better. You can also get an adapter that plugs in between your radio and the fm antenna that is supposed to sound even better.

Cassette player? yes and no. It broke years ago. So more no.

I live in the boondocks and will likely have no issues with having an available FM frequency.

Well, my experience with the FM transmitters is not all that good. I guess if you live in the sticks they might work OK, but I tried one with an MP3 player connected, and it experienced a lot of interference while I drove along.

FWIW, the cassette player only needs to have the pickup head functional and be able to eject the cassette to work for this application. The reel motion is not used, so you may still have the capability to use it, and it will give you better performance.

Also if that does not work, the FM Direct adapter works much better.

Hadn't seen that one before, but that's a perfect solution! And I'll bet it works tons better than any over-the-air solution.

Ok...I am underway and already have an opinion of Siruis. They are dishonest. I wish i didnt buy the satelite radio.

I bought a radio and a preepaid card that said for Activation and monthly payment use. I went online to activate, gave my name, address, personal information, submitted the pin of the pre-paid Sirius activation/monthly payment card.......THEN IT HIT: Must have credit card and must take out a longtime subsciption plan.

NO WHERE IN THE FINE PRINT of the prepaid Siruis card did it say credit card required. It says may be used for activation and monthly fee...nothing about a frigin credit card will be needed.

I called Siruis customer service , after going though press..press..press..press..press..I finally got a live person.
So i decided i would be dishonest and told Siruis i sell Siruis radios...they activated the radio. I am prepaid for 1 month...and then i would stop Sirius radio.

You're right, it probably isn't in the fine print of the prepaid card. But it is in the Terms and Conditions on their website.
From Sirius:
F. PAYMENT: In return for receiving the Service, you agree to pay us as follows:

1. Subscription Fee: You must pay in advance by credit card or debit card. You may combine payment with a SIRIUS prepaid card. You may also pay by check or money order for Subscriptions of at least one year in length. If you pay by check or money order you will receive an invoice by mail and will be required to make your first payment before your Subscription is activated

THAT should be imprinted on the Siruis prepaid card. If it was i would not have purchased the Siruis card and probably many other people who buy the prepaid card.

The cards are non-refundable, i wonder how many tens of thousands of people bought the prepaid card, found out a credit card was necessary, and the $30-$50 bought prepaid card lay in a desk drawer somewhere, unused.

But like retailers that know many gift cards go UN-used, i bet Siruis knows many prepaid cards go un-used.

Prepaid cards are the same as rebates, the retailers know that a large percentage go unclaimed, more profit in their pocket.

Thumbs up XM Radio
I have a subscription to XM radio and I love it.

I bought the whole package for home use (also included car kit) that plugs directly into my home sterio on amazon.com for under $50.00. All you do is pay the $12.95 monthly fee and that's it!!

Sirius came preinstalled in my new car with a 6-month trial

It's alright, I guess. I doubt I'll renew it.

Same here. I like it,like not hearing commericials, but i can live without it.

Satelite radio could be great but it seems to be missing something. Maybe some
thing like locally broadcast. Like TV, there are alot stations i will never listen too.

If monthly rate was about $5 to subscribe, that would make it great. $13
a month is just a tad too much. Also i am finding out satelite radio like
to add small charges for this and that. A BIG negative in my opinion for
trusting a non brick and mortal store. Bad for budgeting too.
