You'll get a lot of opinions on what the best brand of hard drive is but I've owned both Western Digitals and Seagates and have not had any problems with either. In fact I've still got an old Western Digital Caviar from the 1990s that ran Windows 95 and is in perfect condition. My experience with Seagates has been that they've tended to operate a little quieter though performance wise I haven't noticed much of a difference between the two.

I've also had good luck with WesternDigital and Maxtor/Seagate drives.

What week is it? The "most reliable" brand regularly changes, so it's something of a crap-shoot to pick by brand.

I have had no problem working with Western Digital and Seagate Drives (but I perfer WD). Maxtor before they were bought were good but my 8 year old drive failed on me.

I've enjoyed Wester Digital drives myself. Had an O.K. experience with Seagates. I still have a sour taste in my mouth about IBM/Hitachi drives....even if they aren't IBM's anymore. (DeathStars...)
