Solved: I want my girlfriend to buy an laptop, not MacBook.
My girlfriend wants to buy a MacBook:

http://store.apple.com/1-800-MY-APPL...family/macbook

Give me some ideas to help sway her away from MacBook. I would prefer she buys something else like an HP.

Thanks in advance,
-MrFreeman

I think you should let her get what she wants. Never push a woman in her decisions. If she isn't happy with laptop you pick out you will never hear the end of it......that is if she even speaks to you at all.

My wife had to make an actual life or death decision and I backed away and let her make it because "life in a wheelchair" was a possibility and my wife was a very independent person. She would have hated me if I had talked into surgery that would have left her paralyzed.

Notice I am using past tense when I talk about her. She didn't make it but she was able to do for herself until the last few weeks of her life. I cared for her when it became a necessity to do so; but right up to the end she was her own girl.

Let the lady do as she pleases. If she is wrong you won't hear a peep out of her. She will grudgingly use the macbook in silence.

You have already received some wise advice. Plus, if she can afford a Macbook, she's a keeper.

Hi Skivvy
Hey Jack, Good to see you around and kicking.

Hi Wino, I agree. If the girl can afford a Macbook, let her have one. You might end up with the laptop of you dreams for your birthday or Christmas. Beats the crap out of coal and switches.

What will she be doing with it?

She wont be using it for anything too particular. Word, surfing, watching videos.

If she's just a casual user her experience with a MAC will be even more rewarding. It's simplicity and straight-forwardness is amazing. Letting her get what she wants will make you a better man in her eyes. I'd encourage you to learn as much as you can about MacOSX and her future macbook so that you can be her Knight In Shining Armor when she encounters a problem with it

A Mac sounds good for your girlfriend. I would highly recommend iWork '08 (over MS Office for Mac), it has 90% of Word's features for 20% the price.

Agree, Agree. I've learned from past experiences. If someone really wants something, don't persuade otherwise. If they come to you and ask your honest opinion, then give it, otherwise, don't push.
