Thinking of buying a new computer..
The one i have now is a bit of a frankinstien.. Which is starting to get crabby with me. I guess thats what happens when you have to keep slapping diff parts together over the course of a long few years.. heh.
ANYWAY! The computer i want doesn't have to be horribly high end or anything. But it has to be able to play games like sims 3, diablo 3, and starcraft 2 well. I know my computer could probably do it now, but not well. Also i would really have to upgrade my ram.. And in the long run, a new computer would be cheaper.
The computer i am looking at now is the Gateway LX 6810-01. I saw it at Best Buy today, and at first i was a little iffy. But i've tried reading reviews and such, and it seems like a pretty good deal. I'd just like to know if any of you own one or know of this computer. If not, or you don't like it, are there any comparisons or such that blow this computer out of the water for the price? I'm a cheapskate. Specially since $779 is pretty expensive for me anyway (adding on tax, best buy warranty, the thingy where they make vista run faster..).

I'm sorry i'm so long winded! But thank you guys even if you just got done reading so far. You've already all helped me so much.

Personally, there's no way I'd spend that money on that computer!

I just assembled a computer and I'm installing Windows 7 on it. I have just about the same money invested and this will run rings around that machine. The only thing that machine has better is more memory, but I can't imagine needing more than 4gigs anytime soon. Also, I don't think the processor in that machine supports hardware virtualization, so you couldn't run the new Windows 7 Virtual PC. It comes with a marginal 400W P/S, I suspect you'll be pushing that pretty hard as well.

Intel Q9550 quad-core 2.83mhz CPU
EVGA 132-CK-NF78-TR 780I SLI RTL
MSI R4850 ATI video
550W P/S
4gig PC6400 DDR2 memory
Hitachi 1TB disk

Hm.. =/ My friend is coming over today, and we are gunna look around online to see what kind of computers i could make.. Maybe we will field trip to Mirco Center. LOL! We shall see.. I appericate your help a lot! I saw the shiney-ness and i new someone would have to explain it to me in simple words. <3 lol, thanks!

I'd do some careful shopping and talking to folks over in our Hardware forum first, then assemble a list of components and shop for them on-line. You can frequently do much better than going to retail stores for the components.

A friend came from abroad and just brought his motherboard and hard drive. Then he bought case+PSU locally.

Memory is cheap. See here? http://www.crucial.com/uk/systemscan...70FC6231D926C3

Similar in US I guess.

Um guys... Sorry to bug you, but um.. I already bought this computer. I'm sorry i didn't say anything earlier, but i was a little embarassed when everyone was like 'NO!!' haha. I've just had horrible luck with home made computers.. So i figured this was something i could upgrade for a while.

Again, sorry to trouble you.
