Laptop
I am looking to get a laptop for my birthday or christmas. I will be using the laptop for internet browsing, watching videos online (youtube, vimeo, etc.) , downloading/listening to music, and typing up papers for school. I would like to get the new OS (Windows 7). I am looking at this laptop currently : http://www.bestbuy.com/site/HP+-+Pav...=1218123526907

Please let me know anything good/bad about the laptop above. And if you have any other suggestions, feel free to add!

Thanks!

Well, it has a lower end processor with minimal cache. OTOH, unless you're a gamer, that's probably not going to be a big issue.

No, im not much of a gamer. Anything else i should know? I know that it had an AMD processor instead of intel... Is this a big problem? Any other laptops that you would recommend?

Hi newguy1 - just curious, have you considered switching to OS X and getting a Macbook? They are Intel-based so if you needed to, you could run Windows on it as well (though you would need a legal copy of Windows to install.)

From your initial post, I assume you are a student and if that is the case you qualify for Apple's Education Discount for Students. If you are interested, or at least intrigued, check this out.

Just throwing ideas out for you to consider. Good luck with your choice either way!

Nah. I'm not much of a mac guy. I know the mac book is like $999. Which isn't really in my price range. I'm looking to spend no more than like $750. But thank you for throwing out ideas I appreciate it.

If you're going to be playing graphics Intensive games, you need to rethink your requirements! You need a decent graphics card, and not one that shares memory with the processor.

No, When I was talking about getting call of duty, I meant for my Playstation 3 lol. Sorry I should have been clear about that. Anyway, the most recent laptop I listed (The black one)... Is this a good and reliable laptop? Will i have to be fixing things every 3 months? Or will it last? Thanks!

Well, some folks have issues with HP laptops, I've had mine for several years and it's still running fine. In general, I think it'll treat you as good as you treat it. If you're careless and knock it around, any laptop may fail. OTOH, if you're reasonably careful with it, it'll probably last for years.

Most of my issues with HP laptops have been the cr*p software they load them with. Once I strip all that off they seem to work fine-and reliability has been no worse than any other brand I've had, and better than some. (My experience with Dell, in particular, has been poor-but others say the same about HP so I suspect that, as a brand, they're probably about equal.)

I use PC Decrapifier the first thing on any new factory computer. This was originally developed for Dell computers, but all of the major brands do the same thing, and now the script is generic.
