Looking For Palm Pilots
There are 2 palms needed in my family.

1. My step mom needs a low end Palm that will sync with her PC and Laptop. She will use it for a calendar, address book and taking memos. It wont be connected to the internet.

2. My Dad is in need of a higher-end model, for internet and email access. He's looking at both paid wireless service and free networks. There was an article about a wireless "cloud" being setup in our area in the paper today, so I imagine getting access will be easy.

300th post!

Are you strictly looking for Palm handhelds or anything running on the Palm OS platform?Or are you considering Non-Palm OS devices such as windows CE devices? I use to do Tech for Palm but have been out of the loop. For basic but expandable and rellatively low cost the m125 looks nice. I have used them and tey are sutible for average use. As for advanced features the Palm i705 looks like the latest and greatest but I have not used one. Overall I think Palm and Handspring have dependable units but Sony makes some nice ones to. I'm not to much into the CE platform. CE devices usually contain the most features on the highend. I like to think of them as the smallest laptop running windows you can get. For specific Q&A and educated opinions on new products I would check here http://forums.pdabuzz.net/

Handspring, in my opinion, makes good units, after all the founders of Handspring are the original founders of Palm. My girlfriend has a low tech model and we are pleased with it. Even though it is basic it is expandable. That is one thing I don't like about handspring. They use springboard expansion. They seem reluctant to adopt secure digital expansion, which is becoming an industry standard as far as preloaded applications and other solutions. Sony does not use SD either but they do use Sony memory sticks which are interchanable with other sony products. So, my final opinion is for you step mom go with the palm m105 for around $99 but ultra low tech, not expandable, not rechargable, only 2 MB memory. Or step up to the m125 which adds 2 MB and expansion slot. m130 adds collor and rechargable. For your dad you could go with the m515. Color, 16MB, recharge, expansion, can get wireless connection using one of several mobil phones and palm software. Or, go with the i705. Not color, is rechargable, only 8 MB but offers built in wireless. So, if wireless is the key factor then that is the way to go.
