Question Recommend a Good CDrom Drive
I am a hardcore gamer and have been buying up a lot of new titles that really like to use the latest versions of Safedisc copyprotection.

Both of my current cdrom drives never successfully read this stuff. I have a Creative 52x standard and Sony CDrw.

Could someone suggest a standard or burner that has a good reputation for being able to read most protections.

I am really getting tired of spending 50-60bucks on these games only to shelve them for a week or two until someone can put up some stupid crack.

I would greatly appreciate any responses!!

Totally frustrated!!

dazzl, no recommendations on cd roms, but I have to ask, are these original game cd's you're talking about? Not copies? That's wierd that you would have two cd roms having trouble reading original game cd's. I never heard of that. Are you sure it's issues with copy protection?

Everyone says it is?
I agree that this is weird. I am speaking of the original game cd's. I should mention that both drives are over 1-2yrs old.

The games install with no problems but when I go to launch them I just get a quick blip of the splash screen and then nothing. Most of the game companies suggest its either the drives or copy protections, and in fact whenever the appropriate no-cd or fixed exe becomes available, it always fixes the problem.

Today I installed Divine Divinity (Safedisc 2) on my laptop and it plays beautifully, on my gaming rig......no deal.

I'm open to any suggestions as to what else could cause this if not copyprotection.

Thanks for your guidance

Angry Got new drives, still same problem?
First of all thank you in advance for your future and past support.

Thinking it was my CD drives/copyprotection I bought a new CDrom Drive today a LiteOn LTR 165H as well as a new burner LiteOn also LTR40125S. (CloneCD says it can read Safedisc2)

The same problem is occurring...so its not the cd drives. Then I installed DD on my Dell laptop which just barely meets the requirements and the game runs fine.

What gives? There must be some file/program etc that is on my gaming rig that causes DD (and the other titles) to not launch. Can anyone offer a suggestion as to what might be conflicting DD and how I might look for such a file/program? I have made sure that no programs are running in the background. Greater than 90% of system resources are available.

I have done some registry searching (not sure if I was right or complete) for anything relating to burner software.

I am so completely frustrated. I must find the answer or I may not be able to run any new games as this has happend with Neverwinter Nights and Morrowind as well. I had to get patches for those to work.

BTW: These are the original discs, not copies. I want to run the originals.

Again, thank you in advance for your kind assistance!!! Anything you might offer will be truly appreciated.
