Smile just a thought
Ive been to a site similar in concept to this. Also a very good site. Yours however looks like it has a little more user friendly touch.

However one thing which they have which keeps people interested is a points system.

Once users join they are awarded points which give a false impression of worthiness.

It tends to keep them coming back. Worked for me lol..

By no means is this meant to be derogatory in any way. I just thought its a great idea.

Cheers,

keep up the good work

I think a point system is pointless.
The idea of this board (most of it) is to help people solve computer problems! not reward the members that can help in their free time.

the points system is like this.

if you get enough points for helping other you get access to an
"elite" group of helpers whom are I guess high skill level.

heres a look for an idea.

www.experts-exchange.com

it kind of gives you a sense of belonging i guess.

huckey.... Welcome to TSG

Details details details .... I'll try to explain it, you see huckey once upon a time many, many moons ago we discussed the merit point system were registered members are awarded points for the number of posts they make and there's waaaaaaaay too many variables to consider as to what worth it might have ... so Mike wisely decided to just let things be as they are and as you can see it works quite well here just as it is.

Then there is the Random forum, and we need not get into that.
you can go in there and find out after a few hours that you may not be able to leave .... you've been warned

Now we do have http://forums.techguy.org/misc.php?s=&action=faq and if you like you can go to the section called General Board Usage where you will see a subsection called What are referrals? http://forums.techguy.org/misc.php?s...ge=2#referrals and in there you'll see some info that you can maybe ask more about ...

I don't know the answers or if it's true, but I just thought you might like to check it all out.

DS

Referrals aren't used onthis board, as their is no need when there is no point system

We try to make everyone feel welcome from the first day, and the first question, not make them feel like they only have limited access to our free resources, until they have put enough time in to be deemed worthy.

From day 1, every one who comes here is worthy, until they prove otherwise. Everyone posts, just the same as Moderators or Admins, and people help when and where they can.

I definitely prefer the family atmosphere here to the expert-exchange elitist attitude towards helping.

Just my humble opinion!
