Talking TSG Ad-Free Weekend!
Isn't it nice to surf our site without having to look at advertisements? Or, if you're one of those immoral people blocking ads, isn't it nice to know that you don't have to feel guilty this weekend?

For this weekend (5/31/2003 - 6/1/2003), we're celebrating the enormous growth that we’ve recently been experiencing by removing advertisements from the Tech Support Guy Forums! If you’re enjoying it, or if you’ve found the site to be useful, make a donation! Any member donating at least $20 will continue to view the site without advertisements – even after this weekend.

<a href="http://www.techguy.org/how2help/donate.html">Check out our donation page for more information!</a>

Thanks for using the site!!

I like it better when I edit it like that Thx a lot. I have unblocked them. Would you have any interest in disallowing ad blocking on TSG-its not that hard, only a few lines of JS. Maybe it would help with donations.

I am sorry, I must be so used to the ads and mentally blocking them, that I didn't even notice they were missing

It seems to me that just as soon as they come up with some new code, the ad blockers update as well... sort of like antivirus and the virus makers. But, if you know of a really good trick, I'm certainly all ears.

Darn your right! AdSubtract (popular ad blocker) does not seem to block the ads giving a 404 error like a HOSTS file would. It just doesnt show the ad, it shows a blank space.

My idea was to use javascript to check the height and width of the ad. If its not 60x432, it would give an alert saying please dont block the ads. But with the adblockers-the height seems to be the same even though the ads not shown. Yes im aware that height and width have been hardcoded into the page, but even after removing that I had the same results.
