Thumbs up New suggestion for this suppurb site!
I think that on top of having the post count with the percentage, each user should be able to customize their interface on the forum. For example, change the color of the text, links, border, arrows, etc. What do you think?

P.S. Please vote too! Thanks.

I'm sure it could be done, with some major work... (vB was never designed for such customizations, but we've done a lot that it was never designed for). However, I think it would really detract from the site -- not to mention could be painful or impossible to read if abused!

True. But I mean, HTML could be harzardous if it was misused too. You don't have to do it if you don't want to, it was just a suggestion.

Oh, don't get me wrong -- I'm always up for a new idea. After all, that's how we got where we are today. Just look at the changes recently! If only you could see where we've come from...

Just giving my 2 cents is all. And, as you know, I've been out-voted in the past! (Namely, on the topic of showing posts! =)

It's a good read HexStar ... Mike is being straight with you when he tells you that he's always up for a new idea ... actually Techguy has done more work and tried more things than you might imagine in just getting this baby to fly.

Just thought you might be interested HexStar ...

Other sites have that, don't they? I know www.sciforums.com has an option where you can pick from certain templates that they made. To do it, somebody has to design new template things for whatever colors they want to be available. I'm pretty sure sciforums uses vB boards as well, so maybe you could ask them how they did it to make it less work for you.

Hi Mike

Nah, although I wondered bout that myself .... The Ari in the TSG link appears to be from Des Moines, IA.
Arie from Windows BBS lives on some island just off the coast of England.... I can't recall the name of the island.

I've seen sites with choices of templates which you can select to view the site. They aren't customizable, but do let folks have a little more leeway in how they view the site. It's still a template based on the site owners decisions, though.

Neat idea, but takes time, which Mike mightn't have enough of.

I knew someone had posted a link to an archive site, and after some searching, found it was MDM in Help! How can we bring back Random?

http://web.archive.org/web/200103310...s.techguy.org/ takes you back 2 years ago to 31 March 2001. you'll see exactly how TSG looked!

BTW, Great link MDM!

Mike-I dont see possible abuse with it....I think what HexStar meant is that you could choose your own colors/template to view the site with, and it would show that template on YOUR computer, everyone would see the threads in their own view.

I suppose it would be easy in an XML-based board where each person could just use an XSL file...but I have seen it done in other sites using CSS.

For example in your profile you can choose between two style sheets
light.css
dark.css
And the pages would be formatted with that sheet.
vB is already formatted using CSS......

Yes, with vB, there is a hack out there now that allows people to switch templates. But, I'm going to have to turn down this suggestion for the reasons Randy pointed out -- too time consuming. As it is, every time I make a change, I have to change it in both templates (ads and non-ads)... I think we'll do just fine like this for now.
