Angry Lockup after lockup on TSG
Between 12:05 - 12:25AM (West Coast USA time) I tried to read the "New posts" and it took 3 tries before I could

First 2 times the 1st page loaded and about 1/2 through scrolling down it the computer locked up & I had to reset it. The third time, I *finally* got thru all the topics (about 5 pages).

TSG is only site where I have relatively consistent lockups--it may do like I've described every time I get on, then conversely, it might not lock up for a week.

I get occasional lockups in Yahoo!--by occasional, maybe once a week--when checking my mail. But nothing nearly as numerous as those on TSG.

Gary: TSG does database backups at 4:00 a.m. Eastern <b>every</b> morning. The slow down usually only lasts for a few minutes! Take care. angel

To clarify my first post a bit: I get lockups on TSG no matter what time of night or day it is.
Sometimes, when TSG locks up, I can reset the comp & eveything's fine while I'm on site, but at other times it may take 3 or 4 Lockup-reset-lockup-reset-lockup-reset sequences before I can get thru new posts, or read a message in NP or in the main forum lists.

Angelize56:Lockups aren't the same as slowdowns. Anyways, it may be that the pages you are viewing requir more memory/reasoruces then your computer has. A recommendation would be to next time, before accessing TSGs forums, close all running items in the background except for those ABSOLUTLY NESCESSARY.

I was at a older forum and all the page load troubles they had were because of the ads. It was so bad the forum server they and other forums went tru that they turned off the ads many times. But the trouble always came back when the ads came back. The Guy got sick of it and paid to keep the ads off the site after all the trouble thay had.
It went tru efront back then. There is no efront any more that I know of but they was like doubleclick.

In other words, HexStar, your implying that 256 Mb of memory is not enough to handle this site with only AVG, ZoneAlarm, IE5.5, & Explorer running.

Anyway, I don't know what's causing this exactly--tho' I do tend to lean toward the multitudinous ads--but would hopefully like to find a way to prevent this from happening....

BY THE WAY ..... any ideas on how to clean out the Scandisk.LOG file? Been told on TSG I should always use it so I can keep a record in case of problems. But after a while, I shut it off entirely, without a way to clean it occasionally that LOG will get real BIGGGG pretty quick....

Seeing as you're the only one having the problems, I doubt it's with any of the ads. Naturally, there should be nothing that a web page can do to make your computer lock up -- so check things out on your end. Make sure you have all of the Windows updates, that your system is nice and cool, that you have spyware checked out, that you don't have any viruses, etc. Try closing down some of those programs that may interfere with Internet access (like the infamous ZoneAlarm!)... Hope that helps!

Well, about 95% of the lockups are on TSG, it doesn't seem to matter what time of day/nite, or room temp, or cpu temp or case temp there is.

I had not added any soft, or hardware before the problem, and I have not added any soft, or hardware since they began...

Also, TSG loaded just fine, with virtually nolockup's, with AVG & ZoneAlarm running up until this problem started getting much worse within the last month to 6 wks....

Just checked "System Resources": 72% Free. So looks like there's plenty of resources available.

Have you tried any of my other suggestions? (Especially ZoneAlarm)?

Using the same version of ZoneAlarm (3.1.291 Freeware) that I did before the problem with lockups began getting worse.
And why would Java be affecting it now when it hadn't before--unless all the ads now require a new version of java, but that sounds a bit odd tho.... If java is causing problems how come I'm not having the same lockup problem on other sites.
Yes, it does lockup once in a while when checking mail on Yahoo! but I may go for a month or more without any, tho.

Are we talking about total freezes where even a ctrl-alt-del will not bring up the task manager? Or page load freezes where either you cannot switch to another open page or the page simply does not load? These are very different.

For a fact TSG is experiencing some server problems; I've gotten many long 'hangs' before the lookup seems to complete and the page begins loading. You can always switch to another window and do something else when this occurs.
