My name appears as logged in this site when I'm not in it
Whenever I close my internet browser all my junk is cleared automatically by another programme, including cookies. When I come back to this site, my name still appears as online for ages after I've left. I've checked the cookies, they're empty, but my name is there where I was last I think. Any ideas? Not that I use it, but if it's linked, the chat button doesn't work for me either.

Have attached a pic showing me here, but not logged in. I don't get adds either when logged in, so adds showing in the pic, in reality is correct, but my name is there.
Thanks

Moby....sounds like a personal problem, why are you bothering us with this???

(just kidding)

Soooo, let me see if I understand this. Because of this other program you have that deletes all cookies, you would normally have to always log in here at TSG if you wanted to post, right?

So now, even with the identifying cookie gone, this site shows you logged on, eh?

Just so you know, you're not logged on now and your name doesn't appear on the main page.

As you can see, I've wasted all these words and have no solution for you.

Well all your words are still correct My name drops off after about 20 to 30 mins maybe.
When I return to the site, no I am not logged on, I log on with my first post, it's no hassle. Or I might stick around if my name is still there and see where I am

you should get this moved to site comments & suggestions so tech guy can answer your query, but it's all to do with the way the board software works, if you don't actually physically log out from the forums, the board keeps your name as active for a period of time, regardless of cookies on your comp

I have had a simlar issue the last few days too! I was surfing between this site and another, was logged in , came back and it said I was online but has the ads down the right side ( I am a donater) . I also do not have my cookies set to dump automatically so I know that wasn't the problem.

Also the other day, when I was clearly logged in, it wouldn't let me post a picture without logging in first!

Chari

Edit Logging in did do away with the ad for me even though it said I was already logged in

If you clear your internet cache and then reload the page, does it still show you logged on when you are not?

That shouln't happen unless you are clearing cookies, or not allowing persistant cookies to be set.

The only reason I haven't responded yet is because I don't know what my cache is
Is that clearing my temp internet files? Mine get dumped everytime I close my browser, not by internet explorer's own setting but by another programme, it clears the lot, index.dat file too. Should I be clearing something else as well Rog?
Even if I log out of this site and get the message "cookies cleared", I'm still here when I'm not. Or maybe I'm not here when I am???
I dunno

The server has no way of knowing whether or not you're still here, or if you've moved on to another site, or if you've closed our page and shut down your computer... you're listed there until about 20-30 minutes after your last action on the site.
