Lightbulb suggestion ..
Hi mods,

i found this forum and i liked it.. i've seen many ppl good at solving problems.. i started participating in solving problems and provide solutions too.. i like it cuz i like to improve my skills.

i'm suggesting "Points System".. just to make it more challenging for us tech guys..

example.:
person A post a problem.
Person B solves the problem, or give a good tip.
person A is happy that person B helped him, so person A can give a "point" to person B.

i think it can be placed under the name, along with the number of posts, location .. etc .

the user with highest number of points, will be placed at top of the sections or so, saying "the user UserName has the highest points,!! keep up the good work!"

point from 0 to 49 = under the UserName "Amateur .!!" should be placed, and the color of the UserName should be yellow color or so..

point from 50 to 99 = under the UserName "Expert .!!" should be placed, and the color of the UserName should be orange color or so..

points from 100 to 199 = under the UserName "Extreme Expert .!!" should be placed, and the color of the UserName should be red color or so..

something like that, or u can come up with any kind of encouragement.
i find this can be challenging in being good at what we do.

hope to hear your reply on that.

Uh...you know...that used to be how it worked here. When TSG was upgraded to a newer version of VBulletin, that upgrade was taken out. The problem was that newer users who happened to know plenty about the subject would help someone, but the person would want the help of someone with a higher rating instead. Its a good idea, but it just doesnt work out right. It wasnt the same as what you put, but instead had a percentage of how many posts were in discussion and how many posts were in tech. Your percentage would say, for instance, 66% tech, by your username. If you can find any old screenshots on the board of before it was upgraded, that will show you what it looked like.

But if you want a challenge theres always the arcade

That was NEVER how it worked here. There was never a points system, just a number of posts in technical areas as opposed to others like random. The points system has been discussed here numerous times and it is waaaayyy to subjective. It doesn't work well on other sites that use it.

It was like Rocken said and if you asked me it did not work. New user would see that and how many post you had and think you knew more.
I would get PM's from new member asking me things like I knew the answer.
I do help some in the help forums but not that much and only on the things I know about.
But any new member thinks a rating or the number of post you have means you know more.
So best not to have a rating.
Do a google search on best tech support and you get this.
http://www.techsupportalert.com/
Then click the Free support link and you get.
http://www.techsupportalert.com/best...port_sites.htm
Now look at who is listed under Outstanding Sites first and it is Tech Support Guy.

So we have a rating and it is Outstanding. We as a group here do a good job.

I noticed your link mentions that the ads are now more prominent. I also noticed it doesnt mention the forums for Mac users and the ones for Dos/pre win95.

True but look at the other sites they have listed and they don't say it is even for windows.
I don't see ads so no worry there.

Yes, they also don't seem to mention the ability to get rid of ads(although as far as I know, your methods are like mine).

I have paid to do away with the ads here. But I can also use a hosts file to do the same.
But I like it better paying not to have the ads because you get a better page layout and it helps TSG out.
