An ad I just noticed on here that shouldnt be...

Hello,
I have noticed that this TSG runs google ads. Most of the time I see stuff with computers, etc, which is perfectly fine. I just logged on, and for the first time I saw a non-google ad (I think) and it was saying "Security: Missing Data on your computer". It is kind of one of those BS ads that are probably a spyware type. This is a site that suppose to avoid that, I am curious to why I saw that? I have a screen shot if you'd like,

They can't pre-screen the ads before they go on. Send the source code of the page to TechGuy if its really a problem, and he might have the ad removed.
(But if all the sketchy ads were removed...there would hardly be any ads left)

Actually, it is not a problem to be at all. Just to others, picking up spyware off a site that suppose to avoid that, or if not spyware, fricking out someone who is new to the net seeing that their "Computer is Infected!!!" when it is just a BS ad.

I found a similar thing...my ad was one of those 'you've just won our hourly prize' appearing as a vibrating box at the top. I was advised to copy the source and send it to Mike, which I did.

Like any other publisher, TSG is indeed responsible for ads that appear on the site. As PJK said - since this site is devoted to solving technical problems, a less-experienced visitor might think that any ad on the site would be safe and be tempted to click on it...especially in the case of the ad PJK refers to.

But that ad, as the one I saw, are probably placed without permission so Mike/TSG won't necessarily know about them unless members report them.

Yeah...of course....the prize I won was 'ownership of the TSG site and all income therefrom PLUS immediate Administrator status PLUS a copy of the 'Bluffer's guide to being an all-knowing technical guru'....but with the proviso that I allow said hourly prize ad to appear 24/7 on the site.

I couldn't bring myself to accept it...purely from an altruistic desire to protect forum members from themselves. Oh, and the fact that I didn't believe them.

On this banner thing again the thing that surreal mentioned just came back, but the thing is how on earth do I copy the code?
Clicked on View, source but in firefox it seems it will only save it as html which I can't upload.
Tried in IE and saved as .txt but that won't up either.
What am i doing wrong?

If it's html you can just copy and paste it into the reply. This site doesn't convert html into it's equivalents, only vb.
