A strange thing has occured.
I have tried to include a jpeg in a private pm with the result in the other person getting a bad link error msg.
This jpeg is stored on the server and although they could not see it, on a reply quote with the link I could.
Any ideas?

I don't think you can attach jpeg files via private messages. Send the person an email instead.

There are some limitations to private messages, one being the size

We have online as we speak 5 mods, to me this is a server question not just something asked in passing.
You guys know why this is happening, we do not.

The mods don't necessarily have those kind of answers either.

Most often, it's an issue that TechGuy has setup for a special purpose or reason. And he doesn't really live by his computer all day...he does have a real life too

pm thru this site or another?

you saw it on the machine it was sent from.

perhaps it's how the recipients machine is configured that it couldn't be viewed.

Why did the link work when he sent it back in a quote?

I think Candy pretty well answered this in post #2... unless the originator wants to provide some additional information.

You can't upload photos through PM, so I really don't understand what you're trying to do. Maybe you can try to explain it a little more thoroughly?

Did you upload the jpg and then use the img tag to display it?

Ok TG will do
When I want to upload a, lets just stick to jpegs for the moment, a pic there seems to be no other way of doing it except to create an answer to someone, then click Manage attachments, upload it and close the page.
In profile options etc there is a section that allows you to see all uploaded files would you agree?
These files are sat on the server so all I need to do is copy the link location when adding an image.
Now the "Postcard" Icon will only come up as [IMG] whereas before it would ask for the location on the server.
Do you follow me so far?

Attachments are to be used in posts, not PMs... While that might work, I'm also not surprised if it might not. Also, you may cause some confusion in the thread by posting unrelated images. Just refer the person to the thread it there's something interesting there. Hope that helps!

I have just clicked the postcard, next to the Insert Hyperlink, and it comes back as [IMG].
Now, why does, as it used to, a box not pop up asking for the location of the image?
The normal run of things would be C:\Docs\pics etc but we can't do that because all pics that are uploaded are sat on the server and its not even asking for the location shortcut on the server now.

Here is a link to the company that makes the server software:

http://www.vbulletin.com/

They have discussion forums there and someone would likely be able to answer your question more thoroughly as to the whys and hows of vbulletin. Techguy didn't write the software (although he hacks it quite often! ).
