Is this against the rules?
Recently, a member described his great dis-satisfaction with the hack-job BustBuy preformed on his computer.

As a few members, including myself, told him that BestBuy is not best place to take your system for repair, I realized that most people simply don't know any other places other then large chains to take their systems. Allot of TSG members have Computer Repair Businesses and Shops that could make much more professional repairs then CompUSA(CROOKS) and GeekSquad(IDIOTS) could ever wish to.

I thought about a thread where TSG members with computer repair shops could post their general info (Name of shop/Specialty/city/contact info) so those that find themselves in over their head can find a qualified tech in their aria.

But remembering the Forum Rules:
Quote:
Spamming/Advertising - You cannot post advertisements of any sort in any forum. This includes products, services, or web sites from which you'd directly or indirectly benefit in any way.
I can't make this thread without ok'ing it with TechGuy and the mods.

I see this as kind of a public service to those who want to find a place to fix their system. But if it is deemed against the rules I wont ague it. I mean, it is right there in black and white: No Advertisements of any sort.

Just another idea I had. Though I think this one wont fly.

Maybe we can get a directory of people who will list their business, contact info and location, and if they must charge for their services just promise to donate some of the money back to TSG, sort of like paying for a phone book AD.

This would be cool but how do we know we could trust these "advertisers".

Do you mean trust their business ethics, or their skills?

Well, I guess anyone in the directory could have a rating on how high that person has been rated by others here.

Start with a middle grade, like a 5.
When a thread is marked as solved the person can say "OS was very knowledable"
the rating goes up.
The user says "OS was egotistical, and offered only sharp comments and bad advice" rating goes down.

I can't spell right now by the way, so if something is spelled wrong, I'm not myself...

You would have to think about the ocational "Hate posting" because someone didnt like you personaly, but E-Bay has proven that most people are honest in that regard.

But now we are talking about a comprehensive rateing system and feedback system. This goes way beond just a simple thread.

The solution to this might be a Sister Site to TSG. One that would be seperate in function from TSG, but still carry the TSG logo. It would only have postings of small computer repair shops and ratings and comments about said shops. Us computer techs could maintain it. Could name it something like ComputerTechGuys or something that isnt lame like that (come on, I just got up!!)

This way, Mike doesnt have to worry about constantly fixing-upgrading the rateing system and any other problems and can focus on TSG. He could link to us and give us his blessing to use the Cran color scheme, but thats as far as he would have to go, less trouble for him.

What do you guys think? Should we do this?

I am sure Mike would give us a few pointers. I mean we are not seperating from TSG, just making a site with TSG members computer repair shops.

Edit> Gotta get moving. I got work in 15

MIKE!

LOL, some advice would be nice.

Not sure it would have to be a seperate site, we'll figure this out yet.

I wonder if that might be a conflict of interest with Mike's TechguyLive service?
