Suggested modification to TSG search function
Currently the box 'Find Posts from' under the heading 'Search Options' on page 'Tech Support Guy > Forums > Search Forums' contains the following options:
Any Date
Your Last Visit
Yesterday

I would like to suggest that all options below 'Your Last Visit' be replaced with the option to enter a date in the yyyy-mm-dd format similar to that allowed in the boxes under the headings 'Join Date' and 'Last Post' on page 'Tech Support Guy > Forums > Members List > Advanced Search'. This added capability would allow users to select a particular date at which to begin their search for threads or posts. I personally would find this capability very useful.

Howdy oscar51
Absolutely anything would make the search feature here at TSG better... no matter the browser...

Hi Buck: I have this dim memory that at one time in a previous version of vB it was possible to enter a date in this box. But I'm probably imagining things. Or maybe there was another date box somewhere that has now disappeared. I can't remember for sure. No doubt an old-age thing....

You can also do a search with Google, which may offer you additional functionality.

I don't think this modification would be too difficult, but I'm not sure how many people would find it useful. I'll check it out.

I don't have any solution (other than using Google) to improve our search engine -- maybe we'll get a dedicated search server some day.

Mike: Because it has been nearly a month since you commented on my suggestion in this thread, I presume you are not going to do it -- or perhaps it is still on your 'to do' list. What say you?

I say I forgot to put it on my todo list. I will look into this later in the week.

Bump

Mike: Any chance you might look at this topic again now that things have hopefully cooled down a little?

And if you do, maybe you could add 'Date of Last Post' to the members list. Hopefully?

I would like a feature to see what post got a reply and what post did not get a reply. So I could search a form like the Windows 98 form to see all the replies or no replies.

zergpc208: You probably already know this, but there is a box at the bottom-left of each forum page that lets you show the threads in the order of number of replies (among other things). Of course, the sticky threads will always be at the top no matter how you show the threads. I can't think of any possible way to test every post to see if someone replied or not. Many posts do not ask for or expect a reply, especially those that contain nothing but an icon of some kind or a single word. Perhaps I don't quite get what you're asking for.

I actually looked into this but it was going to be a lot more work that I originally expected. Right now, I'm waiting for parts to come in for a new server. Once we get that up and stabilized, I hope upgrade to the latest version of vB... THEN I might hack this.

Thank you. If it looks like too big a job, I have other suggestions that would help me and are hopefully simpler.
