I.E. 6.0 you cannot copy computer specs
The computer spec sheet hidden in the computer icon is okay but in I.E. 6.0 it won't let you copy off it. This makes it hard to research. I hear its fine in Firefox and I use I.E. 7.0 beta at home and it works as well but I.E. 6.0 you can't copy it. Can this be changed as I do 50% or more of my posting on I.E. 6.0

Are you referring to the computer icon beside the user name with their computer specs? If so, I can copy from it using IE6 but I may have misunderstood.

Yes - I have used 4 different I.E. 6.0 computers and none can copy from the popup window. Once I switch to another PC's 64 bit or I.E. 7.0 beta on another 2 PC's it works fine.

Hmmmm....doesn't sound like an IE6 thing since it works for me. Possibly a java issue. Do you have the latest version?

I've never had the need to copy from that window -- do you do that often? (and why?)

I do it whenever someone points to the specs on their profile. I always do searches on make and model of things as usually thats what unlocks the key as to why something isn't working right.

Oh yeah and Java we actually use about 3 different versions at my work. One for Oracle, one for our Phone system, and then another for some software I am testing out. This easily could be the problem as we have other Java inconsistencies in our setup.

What version are you running which works?

That's it! I guess only certain versions of Java work.

Here is what I am running on my PC's that don't work -

PC Type 1 - MY PC that has everything at work including the kitchen sink -

Java 2 Runtime Environment, SE v1.4.2_08
Java 2 Runtime Environment Standard Edition v1.2.2
J2SE Runtime Environment 5.0
J2SE Runtime Environment 5.0 Update 2
J2SE Runtime Environment 5.0 Update 6
Java included with Oracle Jinitator 1.3.1.25 (it shows default virtual machine 1.3.16 but its integrated with Jinitiator so I think it may be specialized)

PC Type 2 -
Java included with Oracle Jinitator 1.3.1.25 (it shows default virtual machine 1.3.16 but its integrated with Jinitiator so I think it may be specialized)

PC Type 3 -
New build no Java

PC Type 4 -
Java 2 Runtime Environment Standard Edition v1.2.2
Java included with Oracle Jinitator 1.3.1.25 (it shows default virtual machine 1.3.16 but its integrated with Jinitiator so I think it may be specialized)

I don't have enough time right now to play around with versions that do or don't work on my PC's but I'll keep that in mind when I am trying to copy and paste.

At least now I know WHY its not working.

Glad to hear it.

As as side note, you should remove all of the older versions of Sun Java and replace them as the older ones have several vulnerabilities and many infections have been exploiting them, in particular, the famous Vundo.

While I would love to... I can't. Like I said where I work we have things like a phone system the doesn't like the newer versions of Java and we have to be able to access it. Each version is geared more towards some other system thats all propritary... Can't upgrade Java until the Phone system supports it but can't spend the money for the phone system revision.. and the vicious cycle continues

I'll have to settle for copying and pasting only when at home I guess.
