Question Solved: bit torrent question

discussing the use of p2p/bit torrent is against the rules. this i understand. my question, how is TSG going to handle questions concerning bit torrent? now that opera9 comes with it

the following was copied from the opera site. link is below that.

New in Opera 9
BitTorrent

You don't need a separate BitTorrent application to download large files. Simply click a torrent link and start the download.

As long as the technology is usually being used for piracy and illegal activities, I'd say no support. I might reconsider if it becomes the norm for distributing a lot of games, but I don't know... it's a tough call.

It will probably depend on the nature of the question. Keep your eyes open for bad threads!

I do know torrents are a good way of getting Linux .iso's, other then that I don't know many legal uses for torrents.

Anyone else no something I don't?

I've tried to get a couple of Linux distros with BitTorrent, and I never was successful. After about 24 hours, I just canceled it and found a place to download it the conventional way.

What did you google?

Linux Torrent?

Problem is even if your method is legal with Torrents, you usually have to go through some shady websites.

That's why I uninstalled it and decided that it's easier to find a place to download in the usual manner.

Did you remember to enable port forwarding on your router?
Took me 10 minutes of head scratching to catch that, myself.
After that, I grabbed the entire Knoppix 5 DVD ISO in well under 3 hours.

FWIW: I hope that BT discussion is allowed, re: Linux distros,
because more and more download sites are recommending it,
and IT FLIES!

And Linux is likely to overtake Windows one day soon.

There's already RedHat-based "Linux XP".
(I'm surprised Microsoft let them get away with so branding the distro)

Yes, surprising as it may seem, I actually understand port forwarding. It was just dog slow, coming in at around 2kb/sec.

BT is dumb as nails about detecting your bandwisth, you should really just set it to 1MB and let it run.

I didn't put any bandwidth limiting on it, I presumed it was the sources that were limiting it. In any case, I don't miss it at all.

Could have been the source, I have had downloads that wanted to take a month to download. I go into the options and there it is, it detected my bandwidth at 2.6Kb or some other crazy number, so I bring it to 1MB and its done in a couple hours.
