Buddy list notification
Maybe I'm missing something. I think it would be nice to receive notification--like a PM notice--when a user on one's Buddy List has logged on. As far as I can tell, the only benefit to adding someone to your Buddy List is a little plus sign by their username in the currently active users list at the bottom of the bulletin. Is there an option to receive notification when a buddy signs on?

[bump]

I think this'd be especially handy since I just noticed buddies stay in the currently active list even if they're no longer online.

[edit]
Or, maybe not. That must've just been highly uncanny timing. Like, refresh the forum page at 29min 59sec, then checked the profile at 30min.

Yeah, so. Nevermind, apparently.

Wow -- two bumps in one day -- must be important!

I'll look into it and see if something like this is possible, but really, how would you be notified? A pop-up alert like when you get a PM?

Sorry. Sometimes I like to bump rather than edit to clarify my original post.

But yeah. Exactly like a PM. Something like, "The following users from your buddy list are currently online: ...," you know?

Thanks for considering it Mike.

I think you need to sell an accessory that delivers an electric shock when a buddy signs on.

Now you're talking!

Seriously, though -- I've got it on my list of things to look into in the future.

Also, it should probably be something that one could turn off. Like a checkbox on the Buddy/Ignore Lists page, saying something along the lines of, "Receive notices when your buddies are logged on?" Something like that.

Would there be a way to have a person visible to buddies, but invisible to everyone else. And what about approving your name being put on someone's buddy list? As it is you can add any ol' body to your list, and any ol' body can add you. How about a pop up that says "So-n-So has requested to add you to their buddy list Y/N"

Oh, and I do like the idea of something that lets me know a buddy has signed on. Although, there is a list on the home page of your buddies that are signed in.
