The "Apples Vs. Oranges" Threads have to stop
They are starting to flood the forum, and are nothing more then pissing contests that contribute absolutely notta to TSG.

I am talking about the "A Vs. B" Poll threads that have been popping up like weeds lately. They are filled with fanboi flamewars and useless bickering. Now dont get me wrong, I like a good debate now and then but you can't have a debate with fanatics that just spout whatever sounds good to them without any facts.

There are some exceptions, like the Pepsi Vs. Coke thread which is just off the wall funny and non-serious. But IMHO, the rest are just a waste of space.

I can only begin to guess what this is about OS.

But what do you want to do about it?

The rules do state flamewars aren't allowed under certain circumstances, but as long as they stay semi-civil...

MACS!!!

oh wait.... wrong thread

I do understand because for example in the PC vs. Mac thread I was trying to explain why I think Macs are great but then you get these children (well a few are teens) says PCs are great woth no real answer... and some saying it because their *specs* are great.

But nothing really can be done because it's not a slanging match.

Frigin' Mac Lover!! PC Forever!!
I feel the same way Titus when I post a good argument for PC and get a MACite that cant even tell the difference between Hardware and Software, or worse yet, claim it doesn't matter. Haven't been in that thread for ages, is Ted still fighting the current? I got nothing against Macs but I got to say that Ted's talk-first-think-never didn't help your side none. And the morons on my side constantly saying "mac sucks PC rules" would have got the ban button if they ever did that crap on my forum.

But I digress. Though Mac Vs PC is the PERFECT candidate for what I am suggesting, that's not what set me off.

I think it was after I saw that Firefox Vs. IE thread that I got to the point that I thought these threads have to stop. It started off with a flamewar off the bat and ended up being taken down. Then the five other apples Vs. oranges popped up.

As for what I want done, I don't know. I leave that to the Admin. I just know that the forum is starting to flood with these flamewar threads.

I think he is... now it's Gibble with why is Apple going with Intel if their (apple) hardware is more superior...

As for IE Vs. FF. I understand that IE has its issues, but I had issues with FF too.

Again it's all about people using one thing without really using the other. Most of the stuff between IE and FF is all about what has been said about them, like IE with security issues while FF have little to none.

Prehaps we need to police them more. Report them more. I don't know... but it is in the rules...

Cat 3 offense

Actually ..... there are a ton of threads on this forum which take up WAY too much space, IMO.

This place has changed SO much in the time I've been here. It ain't what it used to be. It is still a great place for tech support, but some of the forums, and threads within them, have me scratching my head. I just don't read them.

I find this forum one of the few site left that really allows debate at full force, the problem of having new or young menbers will always be posts not supported by facts but then they grow up and become wise and the threads then reflect that too. I think though that a member should not only be banned for flaming but should also be warned sometimes that if he or she continues to give unsupported opinions that that person will will lose the right to post in offtopics, but I am not saying that there is any need to enforcethis lose of right since I believe the person will grow out of it with just a pm.

TSG in itself is a fantastic site just the way it is. The tech, hardware and security side of it is unmatched. The rest for the most part is entertainment, at least to me. There are some parts I don't even look at because they are of no interest to me so instead of trying to pick at something I don't like, appreciate or agree with I bypass 'em.
