After a lot of work, I think I finally have all of the bugs worked out of the new system at http://forums2.techguy.org/

Please re-register there and try it out. If you have any problems, let me know so we can get it corrected!

As of right now, only a few more things to take care of... have to get rid of the Moderators column in forum listings, add spell check, and that's about it.

Never been arouond on TSG for a new site. Are we going to have to all be JR. Members again? I kind of doubt it, but I have to know. Thanks!

When everything gets moved over (after a bunch of people have tried the new system and report no problems), everything, including post counts, will be moved.

Hiya

Is this a newer version? I remember the thread that was started a while back when we registered then.
Like the birthdate thing. Might be interesting to find out how old people really are, but then some might lie.
I have always wondered about the Sigs. I know they are in this site but I didn't want to sound corny. Mabey, later.

Now, lets have a look. I remember the other one. I like the attachment idea, but can it be used for bad, ie viruses? Just a thought. Love the pics, which one shall I be. Can you guess I'm typing as I view?
33 pages!! phew!
Love 'em. It makes it more fun

Lets hope it happens soon.

Keep up the good work.

Regards

eddie

You're right. At the moment, it's set up to accept image and zip files. Zip files could easily contain viruses, trojans, warez, etc. Should we disable this? I'd be interested in everyone's opinion on the matter...

Also, please keep testing the new forums at http://forums2.techguy.org/ so we know that no one will have any problems when we go live!

I think the only way to allow zips would be if they went through a quarantine process. Maybe anyone wanting to put one up, could send it, or a link to it, to a mod or yourself, and you guys give it the OK.

Otherwise, I think it's asking for trouble, especially if there were any pranksters out there.

Mike,

I think 'eddie' has makes a valid point about accepting zip files and the potential problems that can come with them.
Randy has offered up a good solution in the 'quarantine prior to' idea, I am not too sure about the mechanics of it, but it seems 'do-able'.

With all the 'jokers' out there I think it is just asking for trouble and it would only be a matter of time..........
I don't think you really want to roll dice on this issue. IMHO.

Regards,
DS

Im in on the zips also. As it is we tend to get our share of looneys and troublemakers (myself included), some people would have no second thoughts to attempting some kind of sabotage.

Are any zips a potential problem, or just
self-extracting ones?

Any zip file could potentionally carry a trojan or virus. I agree with what everyone has said here -- it's too big of a risk.

Could you explain what warez is?

Warez is basically just illegal software, or software that is distributed illegally.
