Hey everybody. Wasn't sure where to post this, but I'm having a heck of a time just getting most of the Forums to open for me. Actually, off and on I've been having problems getting into this site today. I tried pinging TSG, but it kept failing. I finally got on now, but this is the only forum I seem to be able to acces. So, if someone feels that this is in the wrong forum feel free to move it to the Forum you think is appropriate. The others Forums time out on me. I'm on shaw@home. I have no trouble accessing email or surfing the net. Just TSG.
Here's my ping results:

C:\WINDOWS>ping 205.166.61.198

Pinging 205.166.61.198 with 32 bytes of data:

PING: transmit failed, error code 10050.
PING: transmit failed, error code 10050.
PING: transmit failed, error code 10050.
PING: transmit failed, error code 10050.

Ping statistics for 205.166.61.198:
Packets: Sent = 4, Received = 0, Lost = 4 (100% loss),
Approximate round trip times in milli-seconds:
Minimum = 0ms, Maximum = 0ms, Average = 0ms

Any ideas? Or is it because the board upgrade is emminent?
Thanks :>) sharon

Ok. I just closed out of TSG. Then pinged http://forums.techguy.org/ and it came back with:

C:\WINDOWS>ping http://forums.techguy.org/
Unknown host http://forums.techguy.org/.

Then I returned here just now and got in just fine. I wonder what's up?

It's probably just shaw. When I came back to TSG it opened quickly. I just thought it was weird because I could get into Google, email and surf. I just hate not being able to get into my favorite site whenever I want. lol
Have a good weekend. :>) sharon

Hey! Your roundtrip is way quicker than mine.

Yeah, just happened to me too again. I was in the middle of submitting a reply in Windows Forum and got knocked off. My reply didn't even make it in.Once I could get back on I had to post my reply again. But, I checked and couldn't get into OE or surf either. RT, are you with shaw@home?

or what ever, ....ISP is AT&T
just had trouble posting, spell check, etc,
posting on our recent topic... the whole site seems flakey unless we're caught in the middle of the upgrade process...

What I should of asked you was if you were on cable or dialup. shaw@home is my cable isp. I wonder if this Code Red is still affecting us as cableusers. My zonealarm has been reporting an incredible amount of alerts with the majority of the ip's starting with 24.xx.xxx.xxx (which is cable I believe).

Hey RT. Click on the "Mark" toobar, then left mouse button and drag it over the info. Then click on the "Copy" toobar. Then come back and Paste. If your toolbars aren't displayed, then click on the MS-DOS icon and then Edit>Mark, then Edit>Copy.

I becha the milliseconds change all the time...I've never pinged on a regular basis, so I'm not sure.

Well I'm still real slow !

But that's OK At least I'm still pinging!
Thanks once again Sharon, I've never really explored those little icons on the dos window.
Folowing your instructions, one gets this:
Pinging 205.166.61.198 with 32 bytes of data:

Reply from 205.166.61.198: bytes=32 time=359ms TTL=242
Reply from 205.166.61.198: bytes=32 time=355ms TTL=242
Reply from 205.166.61.198: bytes=32 time=358ms TTL=242
Reply from 205.166.61.198: bytes=32 time=358ms TTL=242

OK, you can see the diff in dial-up and cable, plus I've got a dirty line anyway, I always did think, just by listneing to the durn telephone...(snap, crackle... pop!)

Thanks for the info!

Uh, the site seems good to go now, for me anyway.

Our backbone had a few minutes of down-time last night (around 10:45pm est), but that's it. Otherwise, I've had no problems. You guys still experiencing this?

When you ping, make sure you only type the host name -- no slashes or http. ("ping forums.techguy.org", not "ping http://forums.techguy.org/")
